Hi,
I currently have a 1974 CB750 that the drive chain broke and cracked the lower case. I tried using JB weld to patch it, which did seem to work, but oil started leaking out of the gearshift lever so I stopped riding it because I wasn't sure if I was doing more damage by riding it.
I also have a 1972 750 engine in the shed that had the camchain wear through the block. I guess I'm having bad luck with chains.
I was thinking about possibly trying to make one good engine out of these two, but wanted to get some feedback from people more familiar than I am with these bikes. I'm not sure how different these two engines are and if that is even possible. My mechanical skills are okay, but I have never torn into an engine before other than changing the head gasket on a 77 400F, so I'm not sure if this is something I should even tackle.
Would I be better off trying to find a motor for sale and going from there?
Thanks for any input.
Walt
