FourPack Project Updates - with pics!
« on: April 13, 2008, 06:48:32 AM »
Thought I'd toss up a few update pics. Finished paint and graphics on tank, switch from struts to shocks in the rear, etc. Pics are getting automatically resized, so they look slightly pixelated.

WOW!! Clean, functional, comfortable.... and the bike is nice too!  ;D

Serious, BEAUTIFUL work Chop!!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

NICE! I like the look of the shocks better than the struts, the chrome gives it just the right amount "sparkle" IMO. Oh and I WILL be stealing your tire lettering idea....just so ya know, lol.

Very nice and I like the "Fourpack" on the tank - very cool. Shock info? Source? Looks better than the struts for sure.

Looking forward to more updates,
cheers
Andy

Thanks for all of the compliments! To answer a few questions:

1. Shocks: These are MDI 11" Short Units that I got brand new & unused from a member (mdl91881) here. I added some NOS Relocation/Lowering Blocks. Compression rate is perfect for me - I've heard complaints of some MDI shocks being too stiff - not these.

2. Headlight unit is a Drag Specialties 5-3/4" Side Mount unit with some EMGO brackets (which despite being very inexpensive, seem to to fit the theme of this bike perfectly).

3. Clutch Lever is from CyclePages - Parts Unlimited Power Lever.

4. The "Four Pack" logo - done by yours truly (under the clear) - kind of a "retro-mod" theme which I've been trying to maintain throughtout the "resto-mod" of the bike.

I'm nearing completion - just need exhaust (have a trick up my sleeve on this one), OEM Honda Clutch Cable, Cafe Seat (including paint & upholster), Tail Light (another trick up my sleeve - possibly), turn signals (front & rear), 2240:60 Mini-Speedo (for the 21" front tire), and I good non o-ring chain. I've got a few more "custom" touches & details planned too - we'll see how those work out. Also need to finish paint work on the side covers.

Chrislib - If you steal my idea, I have to charge a licensing fee: $0.05 evertime somebody asks where you got the tires or comments on how cool they look!  ;)

Cstar the bike looks awesome - great job.  Had a question on your drag bars if you remember what size (width) you used?  Yours look narrower than most and was wondering if you had trimmed a bar you purchased or if it came that way.  Thanks

Yeah... I chopped about 4" off the bar ends - I wanted a more narrow stance. Thanks for the compliments!

man i said it before and i say it again thats a nice machine! ;D ;D ;D Got a quick question about your rear brake bracket, it looks like you have it shimmed out at the wheel end, is that right? I wanted to cut something out of aluminum and engrave some iron crosses into one and was stuck on if i could shim it out so i won't have to put a bend in it like the factory one was. Do you follow me on that and if so please do tell details. thanks ;D ;D ;D

I attached a pic of the detail - I spaced it on the brake plate with a brass bushing/spacer (picked it up at the local hardware) and moved it to the outboard side of the front mount. Pic kinda sux - you get the idea.

OUT F()({!N STANDING!!!!

There are some truly remarkable bikes on here.
And this one I find particularly exceptional!

Very inspiring.

to add ...
Yes mechanically it is super clean and impressive..
...but what really stands out for me (as an artist) is that the stylings of the aesthetic changes that you've made work so well with the original design style.

It seems to still have that original Honda feel and appeal.

Man... you guys are making me blush with all the compliments. I do have to mention that I started lurking & stalking bikes on this site a long time before I finally bought my 500 (paid a whoppin' $250 for a great runner) and joined the forum as a member - ProTeal was a HUGE influence on me with his 750. At the time, I was just finishing up my old KZ:

Not sure if I have said this before but this is not my thing, it is however a candidate for Bike of the Month competition.

Attention to detail is spot on and the bike looks reasonably well ballanced if that's the correct term.

depending on the seat and exhaust you select for your creation, I would make room in my garage for it.

Hey Chopstar!

That's a clean looking bike!   What do you plan to use for the seat and exhaust?  I really like what you're doing, I just can't figure out in my head what you'll do to finish up the tail.

How hard was that shock setup to pull off want the hard tail look without the hard tail ride seems as if you pulled it off.

Hey Chopstar,
                   that's an awesome looking bike. :o :o

Quick question. Other than looking cool, why the drilled holes in the rear drum?

Once again, thanks for all of the compliments. As for the questions:

1. Exhaust - I'm going with this NOS 4 into 4 system with a set of 12" Shorty Muffler - I'm thinking this set-up will suit the "theme" of the bike quite well. I ordered the stuff this week out of Cali, so hopefully next week I'll have the pics.

2. Seat - when you look at the bike in person, you'll see that the overall stance is calling for a Cafe style seat/tail section. When I started the project, I had a vision of a prostreet cafe/chopper/bobber hybrid. I think that the proposed seat will do the trick:

3. The rear shocks are just 11" units with lowering brackets - I wanted to be as low as possible without completely sacrificing ride quality (i.e. actual hardtail).

4. Yes - the "speed holes" in the rear brake panel are strictly for looks - Andy says to let the rain in, but best believe this bike won't be seeing any rain (at least not during my ownership).
