Any chance we'll get to see pics of the orange K8 tank installed in the near future?

I know I know I am keen to see this myself! Been too cold to get in the garage. Lets see what Sunday brings - supposed to be a warm up for one day so may try then - needs a custom seat made to accommodate the K8 tank on a K4 frame but I can mock something up.

Ok its been a while but today was a great day for riding and...trying out the repainted K8 tank.

Now I just need some ideas for a seat - solo seat (police bike style) or stock double seat - thoughts? Opinions? Photoshop mock ups?? All appreciated

Both seats look good. My concern is what will cover your rear inner fender with the short seat if not totally covered?
I know you have a rack, but that area may not look "tidy"?

In the quest for the perfect bar I got the OEM K1 bars (Euro spec not US spec) from DSS.

Here they are installed on the K4 - very comfortable at speed with wind running down the chest rather than at it. I am 6`4 with long arms and I have a slight lean forward. Low profile, no droop down of the bars like you have with the cheap Bikemaster euro bars.

Those look great.  I'm not such a huge fan of the US spec bars.  I recently replaced my 550K1 stock bars for adjustable clubmans (pretty much leveled out so they don't kill your wrists) but I might end up with Euro-spec bars.  How much rise is there?

I saw the following Driven low rise bars, but was interested in how they compared with the Eurobars:

The K1 bars I am showing are much narrower - look at where the master cylinder is in relation to the gauges in my pics versus yours. I already have a set of bikemaster euro bars and these K1 bars are completely different in terms of fit for me.

If anything they are more like superbike bars:



However these were uncomfortable on the highway

These are Shin yo AGILA mirrors. I only got one as wasnt really sure Id like it enough to pay for 2. Still need to test ride to see how they work...

It should give you a decent field of view as long as it clears your shoulder, which it should.  Cosmetically, it looks great, too.

Its been a year since my last update!

New K4 updates -today I went down to CT today to pick up my new seat from Eddie Barret premier seat maker - seat was made to fit a custom pan so that the repainted K8 tank would fit on my K4 - yeah not complicated at all

Here it is ready to roll



Adding gas for the very first time to the K8 tank for my first ride of the year and first ride after knee surgery 7 weeks ago and first ride on new seat...all before a 2 hr ride...what could possibly go wrong!



Made it home in good time on a beautiful Spring day



very happy with the seat and how it fits in with the K8 tank -I also like the ribbed pattern on top

tank volumes are posted on site...somewhere.  From my experience, K1-K6 tanks are about 3.8 gallons, F tanks are over 4...can't stand to look at K7/8 tanks

Ah beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I prefer 750F tanks, but that late model K tank has undisputedly great paint. Very nice, Andy. But what's with the Yamaha hat?

Hi Andy I like your tank and seat combo, did you ever get round to doing anything with the Ducktail seat you bought ?, mines still under the bed in its box, I'm going to have ago this summer at working out the issues I have with it  cheers Mick.

Thats not me with the Yamaha hat - thats Anders the guy doing the alternator upgrades. I am much younger 

I filled the tank up with a gallon of gas then drove to the nearest gas station about 25 miles away - put in 4.5 gallons - total capacity is around 5 gallons (approx 200 mile range for long distance touring which is why I fitted this tank). Reserve is 1.2 gallons

My K2+K4 tanks hold about 3.5 gallons if I run them dry. Never tried to squeeze in all 3.8 gallons. Get around 150 miles to the tank if all going well and I dont ride so fast. Usually its around 130 miles/tank.

Mick - i sold the repro ducktail seat to a guy with a K1 and it fit his bike just fine I believe.

Stev-O - knee is doing very well thanks. No issues after the 2 hr ride. See the surgeon Monday for final 8-week check up. Fingers crossed.

Testing the new seat - with a ride to Cape Cod and back - 200 miles - seat was very good!

While it was drizzly and cloudy in Boston we had sunshine and blue skies on the Cape  .

Next stop - the cranberry bogs of Cape Cod -we were offered a tour but declined 







Of course no ride is complete without some random dirt road - even better when it says "No through road" - lets try it 



It was great! Very scenic!











We finally got to Chatham Fish Pier market for lunch - and it was worth it!

And then it was back on the road down busy Rt 28, skip over to the more scenic and slightly faster 6A to get us back over the Sagamore Bridge and then Rt 3A all the way to Quincy stopping for some much needed coffee and ice cream in Marshfield. Anders split at the Rt 3/3A junction just before Rt3A got interesting! Treeve was a little heavy handed on the throttle after this 

Great riding and thanks to Anders and Treeve for coming along.
