I just pryed/popped mine off with a screwdriver.  The 750 one looked like grabge afterwards, but the GL one is reusable, you just have to tap/work your way around it carefully.

Ta very much - that's all the encouragement I need to just get on with it  :).  I'll be replacing all bits so damage ain't a worry (unless it's to the stem  :( )

The rubber seal will stretch and come off without damage to it. then you can knock the bearing off quite easily.

As the man says, seal easily pulls over the lower race (grip the edge with pliers and ease it out and up and over), and then the lower cone came off - required a fair few heavy taps, but it came off just fine.
