The good thing is that the gentleman realised that it was time to call it quits....

Here in BC, if that happened and he didn't decide to call it quits, he would be recommended for a re-exam. Then it would be someone in my profession who would have the joy of taking him out. And they get three kicks at the cat too!

I love it when I'm sitting next to an older driver and they have no clue as to why they have been told to attend for a re-exam; then on some research it turns out that they had driven off the road for no reason into the ditch and wrecked their RV.

The interesting ones look at you and confess that they have been driving for 60+ years and that they have never had to take a driving test!

My dad's 88 and still driving. I check his car weekly for scrapes and/or other damage, but so far he seems to be managing OK.

I am aware that he has macular degeneration, and was concerned a couple of years ago when he had to go in for his eye exam as part of the process of renewing his license. After not hearing from him for a couple of days, I finally called him. I didn't have to go, he told me. They let me renew online without taking the eye test.

I'm glad for my dad, but WTF?? If some old geezer hit my car, and didn't have a clue as to what happened, I'd be sorely tempted to inflict bodily harm, or at least know that I was going to be adequately compensated by his estate, perhaps at the expense of his heirs, who should also be watching out for him/her. I hope 60k pounds buys a couple of new Porsches for those customers that lost their vehicles, as I wouldn't want my pristine car returned as extensively repaired. I'll keep checking my dad, but maybe I'll do so a couple of times a week now.

I am aware that he has macular degeneration,

Hmmm. It would be interesting to know what the visual acuity requirements are in your jurisdiction. Macular degeneration affects the central part of the visual field, and in a worst case scenario a person cannot see anything directly ahead.

Looks to me like writing off the red Porsche is an insurance scam.
That's just me, though.

You can see that the rear quarters are badly damaged on the porsche. plus the damage inflicted on the front end of the car from being punched through the wall in front of it. the entire rear engine compartment of the red car has been tweeked from the looks of that left quarter panel.

If you look at the registration of those Porche', I doubt if they are worth more than £15,000 between them. It looks like an opportunist scam to me. Add £5,000 to repair the wall ( I know a builder who would do it for £500)and someone is trying hard to rip off the insurance company.
Still, the insurance companies are always trying to rip us off by denying claims so I would really like to know the outcome.

Blimey oldbiker :o   If you know where to find a 993 Carrera 2 and a 993 Cabrio for £15k the pair let me know, I'll be there like a shot ;)

Typical news story inflation going on there methinks though, even allowing for the usual marking up of quotes that goes on with UK insurance claims £60k is pushing it.  If the cabrio's damage bill only comes to £17k (entirely plausible, as you have to quote for supplying new OEM parts for insurance purposes), there's no way the C2, the wall and the #$%*ty old Fiesta (£800 for a mint replacement) adds up to 43K ::)

The owner of the red cabrio is taking the piss if he's claiming it's his pride and joy too, you can tell by the patchy pink paintwork (almost white on the spoiler) and scabby roof, that it's not seen any form of TLC in a good while :-\

With a few second hand and/or aftermarket parts that car will be back on the road as a Cat D in about three months for about £12-15k, and that will include the cost of buying it from the insurance company.

firstly, the guy that said the red one was a pride and joy was the owner of the shop... not the true owner of the car... he says thats the way they treat all their customers' cars... as they should.

60k turns into what here?  120k?

we are also getting the info thru the shop owner... who IS NOT the insurance adjuster.  i bet the adjusters number is closer to the naysayers'.

wouldn't you guys inflate the number to make your shop look a little bit better on camera?
