I was once a mini van hater too but my buddy got one, loaded it with racks, and uses it as a camping/shuttle vehicle.  You could easily get 5 or 6 kayaks and 4 or 5 people with all our gear in it to make a run.

Outside the church on our wedding day, the immaculate 2.8 injection Capri belongs to my Best Man

The beyond immaculate Karmann Ghia behind it belonged to my oldest friend, and brought my future wife to the church.  It's packing a motor crammed to the gills with Gene Berg parts, a transaxle custom built by Quaife, and a ton of original Empi accessories including a perfect set of Sprintstar rims

My daily driver is a Ford Focus SVT--180 h.p.--6 speed.
It's not a VW but it was made in Mexico.

i have the same one! you cant see my full size car as it's really ugly, burgundy 94 saturn wagon with green left fender and header panel

not to say i dont love my car dearly, turned 441k miles on it 2 days ago and it still runs like a champ. i can haul hay, bags of feed or motorcycle parts and still get 35mpg in it.

My baby, The PO's paint is peeling in a few places, a porsche cayenne nailed my passenger side fender, and some numbnuts hit my hood in a parking lot an drove off since this this picture was taken.

Anyone know anyone in KY that does restoration body work and paint?

I love sprint stars.  The pic of my Ghia was before I lowered it, so it looks  "more right" now.

My wife and I drove off in my Ghia after our wedding.  Good times.

I really need to start working on the Ghia again, but the CB is taking all of my time (and money).

        You know, I've heard a lot of bad talk about the hp drop of the 70's and all, with me talking that stuff too, but I gotta tell ya that the 76' Volare' roadrunner we had (w/ 318 Torqueflite) was a pretty good handler AND hauled a loaded 21' Terry Travel Trailer from The Fort Smith area of Arkansas to Ft. Belvoir Virginia and back with no problem, except Gas Mileage! After I traded it off, I saw an article in a car magazine (Hot Rod, Popular Hot Rodding, I don't remember for sure) where someone put a 440 in one and was turning 12 sec 1/4 mile times. Man, I was wishing I still had that 76' roadrunner!

I really need to start working on the Ghia again, but the CB is taking all of my time (and money). 

I know that feeling, both my Sierra and my Golf both have bits that need doing, but the 550 is taking up all my free time and most of the cash at the moment


Sometimes I do start thinking that I should maybe slim the fleet down a little   But then I wake up, give myself a slap and tell myself not to be so stupid

Bill - I helped a fellow put a 440 into a a Volare, and a friend has a 440 Volare wagon. Both engines are pretty much bone stock but for headers. The Wagon runs a 3.55 8 3/4 and the coupe runs a 3.91 8 3/4. Both are 727s. While never actually timed, I'd have to say if they aren't into the 12s, they are pounding on the door pretty hard. The crazy transverse torsion bar setup in those cars are their biggest limitation for handling - but does allow tons of room for dropping the RB right in.

Stays parked most of the time because it only get 15mph
Used to tow/haul stuff & mud ride sometimes
Bought new in Oct 1999 (when gas was 1.17 a gallon)

Bill - I helped a fellow put a 440 into a a Volare, and a friend has a 440 Volare wagon. Both engines are pretty much bone stock but for headers.           Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting hold of a Volare' (prefered) or Aspen and doing a number like that. Would be cheaper than doing an actual roadrunner, Super Bee, GTX, Coronet or Charger. Don't see them around though. There was actual talk of the factory doing a "Load Runner" version of the Volare' Station Wagon back in the late 70's. Saw something in Motor Trend about it years ago. The Volare' road runner dressed out w/ T tops and Firebird-like spoilers around the wheelwells was pretty cool looking. Put a 340 6pk in THAT one!

jeez, is your name wes? i have a friend who grew up in italy when his dad was stationed there in the army. he became fond of F1 and euro cars. owns two VW's (passat and works on his ghia) and tinkers with his dad's alfa. he spent the remaining half of his life growing up in kansas. so, it's quite a scene seing a guy in a cowboy geddy-up driving an alfa romeo down the road thinking he's an F1 driver
