1972 pistons in 1977 cylinders CB750
« on: April 14, 2008, 07:19:51 PM »
well i recieved my new rings today and wouldn't you guess it, they don't fit. here's my problem i have a 1977 cb750 motor (2700211) and the rings are for a 71-76. i have a set of 1972 pistons on the shelf. can i run the 72 pistons in the 77? the big difference is the 72 piston is a flat top and the 77 is a dome piston. i know the compression will drop some. i really don't want to go to honda and order them. i get a discount but they're still gonna cost me $100 for the set of four.

The dome piston, is it an F model?

100 bux for 4 pistons seems pretty cheap...

4 sets of rings will cost about $100. acording to the serial # its a K7 but the 77/78 K have the same pistons as the F model.

well i looked up the parts on a micrfinche. the wrist pin is the same between the K and F pistons. I searches and found only one post on putting K pistons in the F motor but there was no feedback on if it worked. has anyone tried it?
