cylinders running at different temps...?
« on: April 17, 2008, 05:09:10 PM »
I have a Raytech point and shoot temp gun, that i use for RC racing, but was curious about the temps on my cb500. While checking the same spots on the exhaust side of the motor, just an inch or so from the motor on the exhaust header, i noticed that the #4 and #1 ran close to 380, while the #3 ran like 300 and #2 at 260!
I double checked to see if there was spark to the #2 and there was. Could I be running lean on the outside carbs and too rich on or no fuel at all on the #2 cylinder? I double checked the fuel delivery and that seems ok.
Im thinking that i might need to sinc the carbs. Any suggestions? or is this normal? Bike runs good so im confused... :-\

Why don't you take a look at your spark plugs and check the conditions of each cylinder's plug. Might be good to post photos as well, if you can.

you might want to check the compression if you are very curious about the temp differential, is the valve adjustment in spec?

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Whens the last time you had your carbs synchronized?

The stock exhaust header is double walled.  Is that what you have?

Does it idle smoothly?  At what RPM?  Have you synced the carbs?

Are the air screws set the same?

If your pipes are chrome, IR point and shoot thermometers won't work reliably.  Too reflective.
