so, about the only way i've been able to "check" the tranny is rotate the special nut on the crank and click thru the gears (we're talking about the race project 400f)

i'd really like to not take the motor all the way down at the moment but i seem to remember the PO telling me the problem was a blown tranny... but he never had the bike running so why would he know, really.

i do have a good spare tranny though.

i just don't want to put the motor in and have to take it back out for stupidity's sake.

Split the cases and check..

When I  tore out my splines on my sprocket shaft, I fixed it in one evening.. takes a while though.

yea... it seems kindof dumb to not tear it down.

but, i was also thinking "just get it running then see what the problems are"

Let me put it this way..

if it doesnt work, its coming out anyway.. and then you would be more pissed at yourself than the PO, because he told you it had a tranny problem..
