lame question
« on: April 17, 2008, 07:33:07 PM »
Okay, this is probably the lamest question ever but here goes!! I just picked up a 76 750F and can't get the door over the fuel filler to open, I've already broke one key and bent another without success. I've even chipped the paint trying to pry it open. I can't ask the previous owner if there was trick to it. Any suggestions or ideas, I'm desperate, a new CB and I can't ride it. Oh, I've sprayed the lock and door with WD40. TIA

If it's like the door on a '77 or '78 K bike, you can literally open it with anything.  A screwdriver or any key will do it.  They turn clockwise only and have a spring loaded return.

Suzuki GN400 - Ignition fixed!
03 KLR650 - Doesn't do anything very well but.. well.. does everything.

Thanks Gamma, I told you it was lame. Just used a big scredriver and it opened right up.

Nice looking bike.

I like your attitude....ask before I wreck it....took me years to get that straight.

Nice looking bike.

Thanks. I never really new the F model existed till a few days ago and only bought it because the seller of the K75 I wanted insisted on me taking both. Probably 50  people have seen the two bikes and to a person every one likes the F better including my wife. I was going to give it away or scrap it but not now, I have a new project.

Not that anyone asked but here's a pic of the 75. I'm still trying to find out the color of the K, the PO put a new tank and side covers on before putting it into a museum 10 years or so ago and can't remember the color or year of the bike it's from. Can anyone help?

Pictures and computer monitors can skew colors some, but that looks like Flake Apricot Red, which is correct for a '75 750K.

Thanks Gordon, that's good news. I have quite a few old brochures but not a 75.
