Oh, and I just picked up a used copy (supposed to be in good condition) of the Clymer Honda 350-550cc Fours 72-78 manual on Amazon for the headspinning amount of £2.65.

You can also find a copy of all the service manuals and parts list on this site at: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=17788.0
or here: http://hondatech.info/

Have fun!
FJ

Great, thanks Jimmy  :)

I don't think the rims are stock either, or maybe they're just painted.

The rims definitely look painted.  Just look at the back tire, it appears to have silver paint all over the edges.  That sends up a red flag to me.  Anyone that quickly paints over rust and such is in a hurry to unload it.

Well how do I find out? Might just be the previous owner's attempt to make it nice...

Oh crap, here they go talking about us again, right in front of our faces, and we can't tell what they are saying, so what if my turnsignals are to big and my crank (shaft) is too short...

I just tried an online Norwegian to English translator, and it didn't help at all! :D

Ok, change of plans... The bike was sold Wednesday, some kind of mix-up that I won't bother going into details with. #$%* happens, what comes around goes around and I'm not the kind of person that easily gets angry and mopes for ages.

Might have been a blessing in disguise as well, who knows, but I was offered a '76 CB550F instead that initially costed $400 more. He'll throw in a TT handlebar, K/N filter, mini blinkers, some sort of depot kick stand and some other stuff that can help me café it.

I think this bike is more complete than the other one but it needs some good TLC.

I'll fill in some more pics tomorrow.

It's got a dent in the tank, I'll try to fix it with help from the tips and tricks section. The rear shocks are supposed to be Marcoci piggybacks(?), never heard of them.

Picking up the bike later on today.

The Black bike looks like it may be the better one of the two...so as you said..it may be a blessing in disguise.

...I chickened out  :-[

Up close, the bike looked like 1,000,000 working hours and I decided I'll wait with getting a bike until I get my own place where I can work on it, my apartment just isn't big enough for a Honda.... Right now the alternative would have been keeping it at a friend's garage, thus making it a bit inconvenient working on it.

Aaaanywhooo, I still got my Clymer Honda manual heading my way in the mail. I'll start reading it when I get it and maybe I'll get some more perspective on how much work restoring a bike really is. As of now I'm pretty clueless.

I'll still browse this website though, even without a bike, whether you like it or not ;D

Hi there! Judging from the pics taken at Nyhavna I assume you're from my hometown Trondheim! I see a lot of old SOHC's driving around town, so there's quite few of us that love these bikes. Mine (76 CB750F1) is sadly off the road right now to get a valve job, but hopefully it'll hit the streets again in a week or two. Typically, the weather finally improved a lot these past days too, and all I can do is drive around in the old Benz looking envious at the other riders...... :'(

See you on the streets eventually...!

I'm actually from Levanger but I lived in Trondheim for a few years when I went to uni. The pictures are from Krangnes Motor, as you might have guessed. Met the guy on Friday and he seemed like a decent bloke.

See you around  :)

I think someone already said this, but it is worth repeating... Get something you can ride now, agree on a price BEFORE you give it a test ride at his place, that way if you wreck it on the first trip you know how much you owe the guy, and if it doesn't run the way you like it, then you can move on to something else.

And you RIGHT! You will need a place to work on the bike (and store it, it won't last very long out in the weather). When I decided to get back into riding, I made plans to add a carport (no side walls). I had the bikes under a tent canopy for 2 months before getting the carport.

I had one of those metal carports built, when the guys showed up to construct it, I asked how much to enclose 1/4 of it for a tool shed, only $100 extra (they did it 'on the side' which is what I was hoping for).

It worked out really nice, I have some tarps that I put up on three sides, it helps protect the bike more, and it adds a little (very little) security cause you can't see inside, AND in the summer you can drop the sides for a breeze.
