Holy Mother of God!!
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:22:27 AM »
There are people in this world who insist that because of their continuing obsession with archaic, iron-blocked, pushrod technology, Americans are backward-looking, simple folks ::)

But until those naysayers come up with an argument that's even half as convincing as this:

 8) 8)

I shall continue to believe that those people are just plain wrong ;D

Sorry to disappoint you, but that Corvette has an aluminum block and heads.  No Corvettes built since 1997 have a cast iron block.  For what it is worth, my Vette will get over 30 Miles Per Gallon on the highway.

I do know they've progressed to aluminium construction these days, it was a figure of speech ;)

However, you'd be surprised how many people in this part of the world (many of whom should, given their professions) don't know it ::)

Technology being pushed to its limits isn't everything; if it gets the job done who really cares? My favorite example is the Ford GT40 with a truck motor (the FE) spanking the high strung Ferrari's in addition to the Cobra dominance to the extent that 'Don' Enzo pulled his GTO from competition. Never underestimate torque!! ;D The current 'vette does quite well at Le Mans and the last 6 cylinder BMW M3 had a cast iron block- for whatever that's worth. Something I like to think we Yanks inherited from the Brits is a sense of pragmatism... and powdered wigs. ::)

Mini (BMC), Royal Enfield or is it accurate to say any Brit bike built during the Japaneses invasion, thatched roof cottages, Bentley (push rods!), the Royal family. Archaic = character.

I could have bought a new bike and forgone the character of my CB.
