which wires in front do I connect for turn signals
« on: April 20, 2008, 08:56:59 AM »
Hi I got a 1973 cb 750. I have the PartsNmore harness on it. I am wondering what color wire on the harness do I plug my front left and right turn signals into ? I see a white double. Unsure if thats it .

heres an interactivve wiring diagram you can turn everything off except what you need.

Also, i know this sounds stupid, but check the FAQ.  I am new here too, and i often rush here to post a question, and its already covered in the FAQ - i have learned a ton just from reading in there thoroughly.

I don't want to hi-jack this post, but I have a similar question. I just bought some mini-turn signals that only have 1 wire coming out of them. I noticed that the front turn signals have 2 wires going into them.

How does somebody hook these up? is 1 just a ground? any way to know which wire I should solder to the new light?

thanks for any info.

It sure sounds like you have either just a running light or just a directional.  Open it up and look at the bulb - how many filaments?  You would need 2 wires to do both (plus ground).  If you have one filament, possibly they are made to have a running light that turns on and off for a "directional effect".

There are some new neat technologies in automobiles (and probably other applications) that identify what you are trying to do through some special signal on the wire and actuate multiple functions with one power wire (plus ground of course) but back when these bikes were built, no such technologies were anywhere close to feasible.  (vacuum tubes or big honkin' transistors making your charging system beg for mercy :) ).

The stock CB750 K3 had running lights as well as front turn signals. The solid orange and light blue wires do the turn signals (can't remember off the top of my head which are right or left) and the orange/white stripe or light blue/white stripe are for the running lights. For Honda signals, the front lights ground through the stems, and are connected to ground wires in the headlight bucket.

If you have just one wire coming out of aftermarket signals, you would connect them to the harness wires for the turn signals and forgo the running lights.

The Orange wires are Left and the Light Blue are Right.  I  just finished installing three wire shorties on my K4 last night, now I have front and rear running lights  ;)

First off, thanks a ton for all the info on this. I'm pretty brutal with electrical and this will help out big time. From the sounds of things, I think the lights I bought are only signal lights and not running lights too. These are the ones I picked up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=190197255334

Does this mean I simply connect my new light to one of the two black wires that went into the stock front signal lights? and check to make sure it works as a signal light?

Or am I missing something here.  ???

thanks again everyone.

It looks like you need to plug in to the solid color (orange for left, light blue for right).  I attached the green ground wires in the headlight bucket to the new stems with a couple of ring terminals.  Good luck.
