U.K. Newbie
« on: April 20, 2008, 05:14:47 AM »
Well not new to a SOHC/4! I have a CB400f, owned for about 20 years. A very tidy original machine. What irritated me for quite a few years was the condition of the gauges. Faded tacho red line, split trip grommet and dirty glasses on the inside. I hade some dial face overlays printed as original on self adhesive vinyl and came up with a method to dismantle/re-assemble them to the point you would be hard pushed to ever know they had been apart.

I wrote an article on the subject that was published in the U.K. VJMC magazine and I've been asked if it can be published in the U.S. VJMC magazine. Fame at last!

I do occasionally get gauges to restore for VJMC members and have made tooling to speed up the process. Needless to say there's not much I don't know about these gauges now so if I can help anyone with their gauge problems just send a mail.

G`day kent
welcome to the madness, although the welcome may be a little late for you lol.
Seems you may have a little knowledge that would be welcomed in the group, looking forward to seeing you around the boards
Cheers

welcome kent400 from the Midlands.
Don't be shy about your tutorial on gauge refurbishment, post details here on the Tech Forum Tricks & Tips section.
I recognise your e-mail address didn't you also have some lifting handles made, I believe I bought one from you. I might just be in the market for the gauge faces too, there has been a lot of interest in replacements on the forum if you do a search.

Thanks Malcolmgb, I'll certainly see if I can post details on the Tech Forum. I'm having to re-write the tutorial as it was lost when my computor packed up. I know, should have backed it up. The lifting handles, yes it was me. Still have the tooling to make them and made some earlier this year. Just havn't done anything about selling them, been too busy with the guages.

Hi there, and welcome!

I wrote an article for the VJMC mag many moons ago about my bike, probably 1999 or 2000, but it wasn't as useful as yours I'm sure. I only stayed a member for a little while. I may join again though.

Hey kent400, good to have you here.

I'm having to re-write the tutorial as it was lost when my computor packed up. I know, should have backed it up.

Do you have a print copy, or a copy in any form? If you can get a print copy to me, I can scan it and do a good OCR (with ABBY FineReader Professional) job on it. I'm sure I could convert just about any type of electronic format as well. PM me; I'll be happy to scan, translate and get it back to you. I'd hate to see you do a rewrite if the original can be recovered in any way.

Also, as my friends in the IT industry always remind me, "Real men do do backups." ;-)
