Cleaning intake and exhaust ports

What is the most cost effective way to clean these up?  I'm not going for a full porting job or anything, I just figured I'd clean it up while it's all apart...

 Bead blasting is what I use. Put bolts in all the blind holes.

Those ports are just asking to be ported out  8)

come ooooon  ;D, you've already got the head off


just kiddin'  +1, bead blasting's the best but if you don't have one handy, scrape the hard stuff off with a tool of some sort but be careful, the aluminum is easily gouged. Finish up with some scotchbrite and some brake cleaner (wear gloves) or degreaser. My new favorite cleaning tool is a toothbrush. cheap and work well but they may not fit in them little ports.

Low-fume EZ-Off works pretty well to loosen the baked on carbon.  Don't leave it one too long (like overnight) cause it will discolor the aluminum and you'll have to clean THAT off.  A couple of hours, brush with a BRASS brush (so as to not scratch the aluminum) and rinse.

I use a brass cleaning brush, the kind used to clean a shotgun (cheap).  Attach it your drill use compressed air to clean out the dust.  Careful the first time you blast it with air.  A lot dust will blow out.

Forgot to mention, get a smaller gauge for the smaller tight spots.
