Yea, I figure that with this economy, it will probably take me a couple of years. But since I consider it my first real bike (I had a 71 harley sportster which I considered garbage) that I bought in 74 from a guy who bought it new and rode it for 200 miles and decided he wanted a bmw instead. Rode it for 6 years and put on 17,000 miles. Got parked in garage for a couple of years and then basically given to nephew who rode it for 2 years and then parked it outside uncovered until I rescued it in June 08.

The one undergoing restoration is my first real bike that got trashed by my nephew. Rescued it and now I will take it back to the condition that I gave it to him.

Wow! :o  How long did it sit in that trash pile for?  I haven't seen rust that bad in a long time.

I'm curious, was the tank stripped to bare metal before it sat outside, or did it actually rust completely through all of the paint?  Looks like the rear wheel was swapped for one from a bike with a disc brake without going to the trouble of also installing the rest of the brake system. ???  I'm interested in the story on this bike.

As I stated earlier, I got this bike in 74 almost brand new. Rode it until 1980 (17,000 miles) when three different accidents claimed three couples that were friends of ours. My now ex and I decided that we would stop riding. Bike sat in garage for two years when my nephew asked to buy it. Basically gave him the bike ($500) and he rode it for about a year or so when it finally needed a new clutch. When he took off the gas tank, he saw the two side supports on the frame had been cut (it was done by the bike shop to remove heads) he decided that the bike was unsafe to ride. He parked it uncovered behind a shed underneath some pine trees in 83 or 84.  It sat there until I found it last June and pulled it out to save it.  The tank was custom painted but I don’t think it was clear coated.  I was actually surprised to see the tank in that shape.  It also had a oil cooler on the front in front of the pipes.  The mag wheels were bought in late 75 or early 76 from Carroll Shelby in California.  They were called Shelby Dowd Daytona Mags and they came with the rear brake conversion kit, which included the disk, caliper, and brake reservoir.  As far as I know, my bike was the only one with disk brakes front and rear then.  The exhausts are Jardine 4-2 double crossovers that gave it a great sound. The bike was a blast to ride and was only beat by a Kaw Z1-900 in a street race.  I have not decided if I will put the spoke or mag wheels back on it.  The caliper will have to be rebuilt and I will have to fashion new disk pad for it.  I have the original tank & wheels but not the pipes for the bike.  A lot will depend on $ and time.

Hello there folks!  I'm currently rebuilding a '77 k model which needs some tlc and new exhaust valve guides.  Found under a pole barn in Chipley, Fl. a couple years ago.  It was a basketcase for sure.

Found the parts needed to get it started and put a little over a 100 miles on her when she started blowing major smoke.  Got a ticket for speeding out here (Dozier, Alabama) last Mother's Day on it while I was adjusting the carbs.  You know the deal, turn a screw, listen, turn another screw...yeah..sounds better...jump on the bike and test it.  State Trooper thinks I got the carbs "pretty close" as he clocked me around 80.

I have pics and will post them after I get them scanned and converted from paper to digital form.

She ain't pretty...yet.   But this motor will be a stud once I get it back together.

Anybody here close to Andulusia, Alabama?  Gantt?

Gday everyone, my first post!!

My name is Alex, almost 23 years old, from Adelaide, Australia.

This is my honda, genuine 11,800 miles, brought over from america in 1988(roughly), been stored ever since and only got it out after my dad gave it to me so now she is going again! Late 74 model, Planet Blue.

I am desperate to buy a couple more from America and i have a place in Los Angeles where i can get them shipped from so if anyone is near there and wants to sell theres, please let me know... i love them and cant wait to complete such an operation! Im sure theres an introduction page somewhere so ill have to go find that and start typing!

Anyway, here it is...

Orange sticker on fork is the last registration label, 1986 (year i was born  ;D), new york.

Look forward to conversing with you all!

Alex.

Hello,

Brand New Here... I just bought the same exact bike as the last guy in Australia... Only mine is titled as an 1975 model. I also have a 1978 that was an old flat track racer that I am restoring and trying to get back on the road and that is what brought me here. Pictures coming soon.

I guess I should include my latest acquisition. It is a 1974 Rickman CR750 built from a K1. Albeit it is apart right now but that is a good thing in my eyes! I will start a thread when I start doing it over.

Just talked to Ken Buchanan today about re-lacing the wheels. WA HOO!!

Cheers, Phil

P.S. Not much is going to happen to this until I finish my K1.
