Topic: Pirelli Sport Demon - thoughts?

I am getting new tires, and Pirelli Sport Demons have been recommended.  Anyone have any thoughts?  They're the same price as BT45's and a little more than GT501's (negligable difference in price).

I can't comment on the Pirelli's but I just BT45's put on my 550 and they are awsome.  They stick like riding on a rail.  I highly recommend.  Get a 120/90/18 rear also.

Yeah, I'm already running 120 on the rear, so was going to stick with that.  Just not sure to go BT45 or Pirelli.

Great - I plunked down my $$$ for the Pirelli's.  I also decided to go back to the stock 110 size the rim was designed for.  The extra 1cm won't make any different in my life, and I figured might as well run the size Mr. Honda originally wanted.

Next Monday at 4:30PM they get installed.

Oh dear.. is it too late to change your order? I've tried the Pirelli Sport Demons, and while they were good in the wet, they were about the worst dry weather tyres I've ever had the ill fortune to buy. I never thought a modern tyre could slide in the dry on a 400F til I tried them, my corner speeds were higher on my other 4/4, and that's fitted with 20 year old Avons!  BT45's are much much better.

Wow, really?  No, it's not too late.  They're not being installed for another week.  Anyone else have opinions?  Seems odd that they would be so bad in the dry of all things.

Go with the BT's  I've ridden all types of tires on modern sportbikes and they feel just like something that would be on a rocket.

Not to confuse you, but my son's Kawasaki came with Dunlops and he replaced them with Pirelli Sport Demons.  They stick like glue hot or cold, wet or dry.  He has a couple thousand miles on them and loves 'em.  Of course our old school Hondas handle completely different than a new Ninja, so it's kinda like comparing apples and oranges.  They are also completely different sizes than our bikes use.

Yeah, I'm finding more and more positive reviews.  I didn't realize the Sport Demon model had been around for a few years.  I'm sticking with them (no pun intended) and am sure I'll find them very suitable.  Wet is important to me, as conditions in Toronto can be a little unpredictable and I'm not afraid of getting wet.  However, with a front tire mounted backwards, I've avoided any sign of moisture so far this year.

I don't get down into the US often these days, aside from the odd business run.  Now that my bike is running more reliably, I'm thinking about a 4-5 day trip, but need to sort things out at home before I can head off on my own for that long (wife and daughter might have something to say).

BTW - did your son's Sport Demons have black lettering or white?  The pictures on Pirelli's website have white lettering, but I presume that's just for pics.  I'd actually like the white lettering, but wasn't sure if it's an option (my tire shop is looking into it).

His are Black Letters.  I think you can order either way.
