So here's a question for you residents south of the 49th.

What does the next President have to do to 'make it all right': Iraq, the economy, rebuilding friendships with historical allies, etc ......?

Well restoring some of the constitution would be a nice start. Also, maybe the new pres will work with the countries that we are supposed to be allies with and get back on to the international treaties. Might be a good start.

Yes, Ike's speech was wonderful and intelligent.  I agree with it 100%.

So, what the hell does that have to offer in this discussion?

Corporate interest, specifically the defense industry, is driving foreign policy, just as Eisenhower warned would happen.

Ofreen, thanks for posting all those links about companies making money from the Iraq war.  I couldn't have spent the time illustrating my point better.  You have helped demonstrate that the President and "his buddies" are under tremendous scrutiny, yet there is still nothing that proves he or "his buddies" are "getting rich" improperly from the war in Iraq.

It is improper to go to war using lies as justification.  It is improper for the government to be in bed with the defense industry to the extent that corporate interest drives foreign policy.  Those two things have been demonstrated as fact for anyone who is paying attention.  Deny it all you want, but in the meantime, the defense industry is literally getting away with murder while racking up profits paid for by the American taxpayer.

It is not that complicated.  The government must follow the law.

Damn, you people are just freakin' bonkers!!!  You listen to political rhetoric comprised of nothing but opinions put forth by sources named "dissidentvoice.org", and you believe that they are presenting you facts!?!?!?  You even sink so low as to put this forth as if the totally groundless opinions of the author were evidence of some wrongdoing by the President of the United States!!!

You guys need a serious reality check, and perhaps some psychotherapy to get your paranoid delusions in check.

You would rather we only use sources from News Corp or rightwingnutjobs.com?

Where do you think that cleverly edited out-of-context video you posted way back when came from?  It certainly wasn't any reputable news agency...

A source is a source, and nothing more.  Isn't it a bit ignorant to completely disregard something because it came from a website whose name you don't like?  I would think the wise thing would be to actually consider what is written instead of dismissing it out-of-hand because you don't like where it came from...

What if CNN came out with an expose report saying that detainees in Guantanamo were being lined up and executed?  I guess you would say, "Oh, that can't be true, the Clinton News Network is reporting it and they lie about everything."

Yes, that video.

You post a video of which you have no knowledge of where the it came from or the motives of its' editors, and yet you dismiss KK's entire article because:

(a.)  It deals with a subject that makes you uncomfortable, and
(b.)  It comes from a source you don't recognize as legitimate, regardless of the content of said article.

The body of this copy has been deleted.  What does that have to do with anything...  That's right.  What.

Just watch THIS VIDEO, and you'll readily see the difference between facts and opinions.

If you watch the video you will clearly see the people speaking.  Their lips are moving and the words are coming out quite plainly for all to hear.  Some of the speakers are very eloquent, in fact.  Watch it for yourself.  It is very enlightening.

THINK about the differences between facts, lies, conjecture, conspiracy theories, and opinions.  Use your brain.

Perhaps to add some irrelevance to the discussion here (I didn't read through all the posts on this thread admittedly)..however..

Arguing over the "rightness' or "wrongness" of war seems similar to what I believe Admiral Bismark was said to have said on the subject: "Arguing for the benefits of war is like arguing for the benefits of suicide; neither is beneficial to the participants"..or something similar.

All I can say guys is this: the biggest problem doesn't come from those that have to fight these God-awful conflicts..but from the politicians (regardless of political affiliation) that are so disconnected from the human suffering and reality..that they have the audacity to put others in harms way.

And again..not wanting to condemn any political party here..but the present Bush-Cheny confab..if I may so humbly offer..is about one of..if not the most out-of-touch groups of politicians to send our troops into war as any I've seen in my 63 years (which includes my own 4 years in the Viet Nam debacle).

So..please feel free to express your intellectual and political biases on this thread.  But please also realize that the actual reality of war is much uglier and hellish than you may realize. (in fact I came to feel that war IS hell..and that is not figuratively speaking).

Finally..if I may suggest..rather than bantering about who's fault it is..or the political correctness of our presence in the Middle East..perhaps we all can agree that we need to get our troops out of there..and stop the killing on both sides..as soon as practically possible.

Peace

I think the saying goes with War, it doesn't matter who's right, it only matters who's left.

Yeah RM, the new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd has opposed Iraq from day one and intends to pull our guys out, but we won't be going far, we're still committed to Afghanistan, and you never know, with all those extra soldiers there, they might even find Osama at long last! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
