« on: April 23, 2008, 09:44:56 AM »
On my 77' 750K are the rear Signal lights suppose to be lit when the bike is running?

Actually, they're not...

really??

On all the other bike I have owned, they are.

Or do I just  have the wrong bulbs in there (I replace with what the PO had in there)

If they're red, ok.  Amber, or any other color besides red, in the rear for running lights is a no-no.

See pages 8-9: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/vehicle_equipment_requirements_8583_7.pdf

Hmm, according to this Michigan vehicles can have an amber stop lamp. ???  Odd, but that's what it says.

But the answer to your original question is still no--they're not wired for that.

I think there's actually wiring in the harness to do this, but all the bikes I've seen have single filament bulb sockets in the rear signals, no provision for marker lamps. You can swap around socket units if you can find ones that fit, I suppose, and have rear markers. Here in Ontario you can only have red tail lights though... probably not enforced but certain members of the constabulary love to stop bikes for any "offence" so I like to follow the rules.

Rear running lights would exacerbate battery drain at idle, unless you used LEDs.  Just a thought.

It was a popular mod back in the day to wire the rear turnsignals to act as running lights. The US DOT bans the use of any color but red in the rear.

The rear turn lenses were amber when stock.  Any wire diagram should tell you the rears were for turn signaling only.  The fronts, two filament bulbs, the rear single filament.

It's not a silly or stupid question.  Just one that has been asked and answered numerous times on this forum.  It's fatiguing, that's all.

If the rear signals blink when selected, it's not a bad ground.  It's working as designed.

I'm bad.  I tend to ask a question and then search for an answer while I wait for responses.
