There are a lot of stories about GL1000 carbs being junk but they are great carbs if clean and adjusted right. The have small idle circuit passages which makes it a little harder to get them clean but it can be done. I'm rebuilding a set for a GL1100 right now and the passages came clean without any problems. They do suck to remove from the bike but are not too bad after you get them out. The only wing I have heard to be trouble was the GL1200 due to charging system problems. I prefer the GL1100 just because it has a little more power than the 1000 and none of the problems of the GL1200. I have heard of guys getting 200,000 miles out of a wing and I have seen them with 100K+ miles on them still going strong. Wings use timing belts instead of chains, they have valve adjusters instead of shims like the CB900 has and they are liquid cooled instead of air cooled like the CB900. Ultimately either bike is a good choice but I would test drive both before making a choice.
