Proof that Pictures can lie.

Proof that Pictures can lie.

http://pennstate.craigslist.org/mcy/652452210.html

At 7 PM this evening I went to look at this 1980 Honda CX500c.  Based on the pictures it looked like a nice bike and I was thinking that the owner might go much lower on the price.
Anyway, upon inspection I found two totally shot mufflers and header pipes (holes everywhere), cracked carb boots (both), ignition wires were shot, coolant was never changed, only topped off by the owner, rust in the tank, scratches, dings and dents everywhere, rusted frame, bars, forks, all the chrome and aluminum was pitted and rusting, etc.  Missing rear foot peg.  Air box and other stuff was held together with electrical tape.  Rear tire was toast. Corroded electrics.  This bike would need a ton of work.  I wouldn’t buy it for $200.  It started and the engine didn’t sound too bad, no terrible noises, but $1200 come on!

I'd be really pissed if I had to drive more than two miles from my house to look at it.

What are you saying?
Those pictures look great.
I'll take it! Oh, local pickup only.
Guess I'll pass then.

It doesn't look too bad from the pics but it sounds hideous :P
Kind of like this chopper I got an e-mail about today. It runs and has a clean title if I graft the numbers from a stock neck onto the chopper neck. A bargain at $700, NOT!

Well news flash to you all. Bike prices are going up across the board. Do not expect to find a cheap bike in good shape anymore, not going to happen unless you know some whos father had a nice bike and just died.

Complete junkers are going for 500 or more, you can thank high gas prices for that one.

But thence came the Great Schism, when the two like tribes diverged, and the Bobbers did take the Road to Cruiserdom and the Cafe Racers did ride to Sportbikedom and they did pollute the lands along their paths with their abominable spawn of Choppers, Stuntaz and like manner of unholy douchebaggery

oooooow ya hear in CA i could sell that grafted chopper frame with motor for around 2g with paper in hand.
I recently looked at a k4 that had all kinds of ugly all over it, and it did not run for $700. I offered him 300 and he got mad, told me i was low balling him. TIMES ARE A CHANGING
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

Its not a grafted frame, it is a custom frame with no reggie yet assigned.. hence the reggie problem..

I know.  It is getting crazy.  It is better to buy a new bike.

It is getting that way. A few years ago I probably could have gotten a v65 at a decent price but now those hit over 3000 regularly!

Look at the CBX, i bought one in top condition for 1100 in 95 and sold it for 2500 in 98. I could get 10g for it now.
Vintage bikes are a good investment.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.
