550 Primary Slappy Slap , how much is too much
« on: April 24, 2008, 05:47:19 PM »
I know my carbs are out of sync to some degree, but my primary is like a caged gorilla.
it smooths out above idle, should I be concerned?
I do not know how many miles the engine has, when I bought it it was CLEAN, and has good comprssion and runs great.
I have had it in the 8500rpm range and it smooth and strong.
It just seems noisy @ idle....

Tune the carbs and adjust idle air/mixture screws, then ask again. =)

Remove the sump (should be cleaned out annually anyway) and feel how much the chain has gouged out of the oil galleries, if its a lot you need a new chain and thats a total stripdown
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
