A while back my buddy Radar (may he rest in peace), actually put a set of bike carbs on a 350 Chevy truck.

He used CV's from his XS 11..said it got pretty good mileage, but accelerated slower. I remember at the time thinking it would be cool to have 2 rack of four bike carbs on a V-8..

its a fairly common thing on the english 2 litre ford escorts, cant remember what models were popular but the big name used often is mikuni, supposed to give no power loss but better economy, with the price of fuel here i keep looking at the spare rack of carbs and my little esky lol

I've heard of people running bike carbs on older watercooled VWs successfully, but don't have any pictures to back it up. I don't see why they wouldn't work or fit though.

I'm kicking myself for not bidding on a 1973 Jaguar XJ12 I've been watching on EBay Oz, it went for just over 800 bucks, boohoo! Back to my reason for posting, it was the last of the carb models, and had 4 side draft SU carbs, how cool is that?

Sweet price, part it out and you`d get three times that for the engine bay itself, the rest of it would sell well too.If the diff was in good condition i know they go for over a grand hub to hub

Yeah, stuff the fuel economy, just travel in style lol..
A mate put a 350 into his xj6 and reckoned his fuel bill hasnt changed

Ah, it'd only be a weekender Trop, I've got a company car, so I don't buy much fuel anyway. Not that it matters, I bloody choked and now I'm kicking myself, big time!

Jag 12's are major PITA's.. my buddy pulls em out and puts v-8's in .. Told him to put one in a boat.. easy to work on then , but not in the car.

That car with the bike carbs looks great..

looks great in that pic, but i`ve heard jetting for the bigger engines can be a real pain especially if it isnt a relatively common conversion...
But the do look bloody cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you might have noticed I prefer WEBER which of course are from cars to start with. A while back I looked at pricing for new.

I really like the look of the cross rammed DCOE's on a V-8, the price was not that bad I thouht.. about 1900 USD - 2K for the 4 carbs and manifold.. they look too cool & so easy to work on.. The downdrafts however can cost up to 4 or 5 k, sure look good in a hotrod though..

#$%* yeah 754, looked at replacing the weber on the escort not long ago, cant even find a second hand one for less than about $350, and talking side draught dont even think about it on less than a full weeks wages

Has anyone ever tried a Webber on a SOHC?
(Or SU's or Mikuni's for that matter.)

I've gotta think that tuning a single side draft Webber would be WAY easier than all these damn Keihin's

That reminded me of a story my local BMW motorcycle wrecker told me, apparently he sells a lot of K1100 cylinder heads and injection gear to a guy in Britain who does a cylinder head conversion on BMC Mini's!

I think I'd like a mini with DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder and computer managed EFI!

I ran dual Webers for a long time I like them..

However, I would love to get a single Weber manifold to try for touring and everyday use.. it would be the simplest carburation you could put on a 4..

Precisely my thoughts. Easy to tune....no synchronizing necessary.......about as complex as a rock.......

So, anyone know where to source the manifold?

Magnusen made them, probably under the MPD name in the early 70,s.

I think I have seen one way back but not in a few decades or ever on ebay.

I think it would be easier to fab out of tubing, or mill out of solid (2 halves bolted together)

probably be fairly easy to fab one, you`d need the carb, a base plate for said carb. a mix of tube bends and access to the bike for the conversion. Mock one up in frame and then you could duplicate them quite easily, hardest part would be finding the right carb that wouldnt flood the engine.
Looking forward to seeing if anyone actually tries this.

40 DCOE would work, same as 1 of the duals.

Same carb used on HD, so it will handle displacement just fine..

looks great, but how old is it?
Something like that would be a godsend, but it would have to be mecahnical injection i reckon, theres a thread on the forum where someone is doint a fuel injection setup for these bikes and they are having some success last time i checked.
I would still love one of those systems though.
