Where are all you Kiwis
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:53:33 PM »
No one has put an entry in for New Zealand so I will start one off and hope that others will follow. I know that the SOHC/4 are reasonable scarce in NZ compared with places like the States due to our small country being surrounded in sea water and a small population The 750 and 500 are still there in reasonable numbers but the 350 as I have are far fewer. I am in Waitara. Where are the rest of you? Be great to have a meet up in time. I am planning to do the around  Lake Taupo run when it is held next on the 350. Lets here from you. I know you are out there. Cheers ... Phil

Rick here in Napier, bike is still in the "where the heck does that go"? stage but hope to be riding it around Xmas.
Tip": never ever ever let a police siren off in a double tin garage!
But setting off a red revolving police light in your back yard at night can really scare your dodgy neighbours ;o)
Will swap my first born for a set of original exhaust pipes for CB650 (well would if he wasn't 6 foot police officer these days)
lol.
Would be great to meet a few other SOHC fans one day...

Hi Rick ... may be a chance some time in the near future to meet. I hope to take the CB350F I am working on at present, in one of the around Lake Taupo runs. Must check on the date of the next one. Napier not too far away for you to participate as well.

Riding to Taupo wouldn't be a problem Phil, convincing bike to run seems to be.

Hi Phil,
Steve in New Plymouth here - just found the NZers' area on these forums.
My newly acquired CB350F is in the workshop for a few days - getting a good once-over, carbs/chokes sorted and tune-up.
Catch up with you some sunny day soon.
Cheers.

Another one here ;D
I have just acquired a 1977 750, appears to be a hybrid using F1 running gear with K7 motor.
Main thing is it's a good strong runner, just the thing for our annual trip to Pukekohe for the Classic festival in February.
Will post some pics when I make them a bit smaller.

Welcome Short shins, we are few in numbers but that just makes us a more valuable commodity ha ha.
I've been coveting some of the odd 750's appearing on Trade-me, would dearly love one myself.
Catch you at one of the protest rallies............Hush.

As Promised... introducing Ermintrude II
Found on Trade Me.
I am amazed how "small" the old 750 is compared to the CBX550 parked beside it.
The CBX is a bit shorter but not much wider or lighter, bit faster and more complicated...

Hi, My name is Rich from Christchurch,

I have a 1975 CB400f (given to me by my Father)

It is currenty in a million pieces in my Garage at the moment...  I'm in two minds weather to re-store/re-finish or go down the Cafe Racer road....  still haven't made up my mind...     ???

I am currently posting in the projects section on the forum, it would nice to get a kiwi perspective...

Hopefully I'll make up my mind soon, get her finished and we might see you on a rally or two??

Hi from Waitara in the North Island. I have a couple of cb350F bikes, one fully restored and the other mostly done but is my everyday rider. There is a CB400F that is very rough sitting in the shed as well. That bike will be restored in time. These bikes here in NZ are worth good money and from what I can see in your early pics in the project section, I would be definitely keeping it original and collectable. Cheers ... Phil

Hi Rich, the CB400f was the equivilent of a factory Cafe' racer when produced, they are worth big money once restored and there is a renaisance in getting these pocket rockets back on the road.
I nearly bought one last year but the guy wanted $1500 unrestored so you can see the type of money they command once finished.
I'm an unrepentant lover of the stock machines so I'm a touch biased on this. ;D

Hi,

Just a quick question for Fishman Phil....

I read on a post, you painted your bike using CRC products a few years ago...  Just want to ask how it held up and would you recommend??

Also is there anything else that would be better?? (Budget Based)

I can't afford powder coating!!

Cheers

fix the brake caliper  ;D your old man dobbed you in. as for the paint, when you factor in the work to clean up the frame, swingarm, triple trees, centre and side stands, motor mounts. battery box and a few thimgs I can't think of. prime them then paint them. powdercoating is a good deal. cost me $200. I'll try to find the dhops number for you if interested, they are motorbike friendly

Hi there.
My name is Brett.
I live on Waiheke Island and currently have a 73 350F and a 75 400F
The 350 is a runner and in pretty good condition only have done 20 000ks and the 400 is currently in a state of undress (almost down to bare frame as I look to do her up.) This will be a long slow process as I am not a mechanic and looked at the box of bits the other day and thought "Man I hope you can put this back together again.I must say though that I have been inspired by some of the stuff I have seen in the SOHC/4 sight and I know I will have a great deal of help from people world wide.
By the way, Phil, we have already done business as you were the purchaser of the old seat I took off the 400 and I have also been inspired by your 350F that come up on the site. Nice work!!
