« on: April 26, 2008, 06:26:06 AM »
...tried calling Craig yesterday, and the voice mailbox was full.  Also the web site says something about being backlogged...

I sent in a request for a set of lines for a dual setup two weeks ago and received an automatically generated email stating that he is backlogged and that he does each order by hand...

...I thought he always did them by hand?  ???  Did they give you an idea when you could expect to get them?

Look at what time of year it is. I suppose with the personalized service people can get, orders probably flooded in.

...looks like hes the cheapest in town...checked a few other places, and they are all around $70, and thats not including shipping.  I got a line from Craig a couple years back for $50 shipped!  Told him what I needed over the horn, and got it in a few days...to good to last I guess.   :'(

A friend of mine runs a one man motorcycle shop.  When spring comes along, he's one busy guy just doing repairs and the pick up in phone calls really slows down his work output.  Also, the ratio of stupid calls, to income generating stuff is really increases.

The above comment really sounds like it comes from someone with no business experience, IMO.  Do you even know what it costs to hire someone to answer phones?

For stainless lines, I use Z1 Enterprises.
Usually about $35.00 per line.
These are the modular lines.  Seperate banjo ends and lines.
Lets you custom fit a bit better than pre-made.
Never had any problems with the hydraulic connections.

Craig at Hel is a really busy guy, so as an option try www.spieglerusa.com. They are good folks with speedy turnaround.

So lets say someone was expecting something of you. Say you were busy or something uber important had come up and you could not respond to them for a few weeks. Should we just call you a deadbeat and smear you?

you seem to be quick to condemn but maybe, just maybe there is a very legitimate reason. One that a person cant just post on a website. Maybe you might want to cool it before you get all grouchy?

Wow, you must be a very uptight person. Did you lose money? I mean if not then you just have a failed transaction. Now if you lost money and could not get it back, then that would be different. I got great service from him and so have a lot of others.

i'm sure they are just very busy. i too emailed them several months ago with a question about my application and got no reply. since i wasnt in a big hurry with my project i didnt care. then i called up about a month ago and got the full voice mailbox message but tried again the next day and got through. once i did get in touch with craig/HEL i can say that they were very good to deal with and my order came through quickly.

When I did mine, Craig fielded my newbie questions very professionally.  He kept me on the phone and walked me through exactly the info he needed to make the lines while I was taking a string to my bike and figuring out routing/length.  Give him a chance and he'll come through!

It may not be much to expect but that does not mean it is right. A little old fashioned courtesy can still go along way even today.

A few weeks ago I called for a double banjo bolt in stainless and he answered and the deal was done in a minute. I called back for something else since and can't get through.

It is unusual but like I mentioned before go somewhere else.

I had the same experience with Craig as tinyrobot. I ordered my lines about a month ago. I ended up calling since they didn't reply to my email but Craig was awesome when I called. I had never installed hoses on a bike and he stayed on the phone with me while I measured the lines and made sure that the threads were the same at the MC and caliper. I received my hoses a few days later. Now my brakes work WAY better.

The guy does great work. I am sure word has gotten around. maybe his business sense is not the best as far as changing answering messages or something on a website, but he does great work and is an awesome help on the phone.

When I got my line, there were may times after 5pm when I talked to him. He was not impatient or rude at all.  The lines were awesome quality and very well done.
