« on: April 26, 2008, 03:48:07 PM »
Ok,
ok, the chain on my '72 750k is in great shape expect for the master link clip (i was pissy when i took it off last year because of broken spokes).  no one in my pidly little town has a link clip to fit it.  anyone know where i can find one for a reasonable price?

If you live out in Podunk the Tractor supply should have a section with drive chain and master links, just take your link with you to match sizes.

It's a good idea to not only match the chain size, but make and model also.  Get your magnifying glass out and it should be on the side plates.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Are there any TSC stores anywhere near you? how about a well stocked true value, how about a farm machinery sale and service? Do you know any millwrights? they could point you in a direction, there is a lot of chain driven machinery out in the world and I'm sure there has to be something.

as sad as it sounds, but the closest to any of those is a mill's fleet farm and due to a detour that is a 45 minute drive now :(

Just make sure you're getting a master link that's rated for this sort of use.  Guy I know bought a no-name cheapie master link from I-don't-know-where, was all proud of saving a buck.  It failed while he was driving the bike and he threw his chain, almost locked up the rear wheel.

if i pick up a master link from fleet farm, it will be rated for tractor use.  but all i need out of the master link kit is the clip since my master link is fine.
