You don't have to over lap the ends or anything crazy on the oil ring, the ring with the chrome edge on it is the top ring, the plain black one is the middle. If you look at the outside edges with a magnifying glass, you'll see that the top ring is beveled at the top and bottom and that the middle ring has a very slight slant to its outer edge.
Just make very sure you have the small ring markings are facing up when you put them on. They should be a 1 or 2mm from the end of the ring on the right hand side. Also, the gaps in the rings have to be 120 degrees apart from each other (but not lined up with the pin) when you fit them in the cylinders.
