When it is the only bike you can afford at the time, only an idiot would do that. Plus until recently, I lived in an apartment and they really frown on doing vehicle work of any kind on their garages. Even oil changes.
So is that another requirement to being a real rider? Lots of miles and redlining? Guess I do not have time to ride thousands of miles a year which also equates in not having time to work on my bike cause I redlined like an idiot and broke something.

Look at my last post. it has been said that 80% of damage is done in the upper 20% performance range. As I said, only bike, would rather ride then repair stupid. I guess unlike others, I do not have disposable income. I blow my engine, my riding season is DONE. i might hope to have something next year.

Ummm,

 Hondas are designed to run to (beginning of redline) on a regular basis, It is the upper end that will maybe hurt things.. It does not really matter much on a stock motor as going past beginning of red does not make more power ( except maybe in top gear)

 Now when you change cam, that all changes, with springs it will
A rev higher
B make a lot more power up there

 So you will spend more time there..


Funny that someone that does not have a built motor, does not even tap the intended potential of the factory motor.... and yet still has such strong opinions on built motors... ???

Comparing a Cb to a Sabre is like comparing a  Sabre to a 'busa, they are what they are, and lets enjoy them for what they are...there's no reason for a what's faster than a stock/modified -insert bike here- pissing match...  :)

Well lets see. My bike is 30 years old. It has never been opened. Pretty sure of this as the PO did not have near the skills to do much other than drink and crash. I just moved into a house and as such, any time I may have had to do engine work is used for other things such as renovating a bathroom and painting.

Sure these engines may be able to go to redline regularly but does that mean I should? Also the tach does not keep up with the engine. No mechanical tach does so really once I hit red line on a hard accel, More than likely a person is going further into it than what the tach will show for the first second or 2.

Regardless, if I want to comment I will. 754, you comment about things you have no idea about. Remember the whole hd thread you started? You jumped all over people for not having your opinion.

My simple point is that a cb will not keep up with a sabre without a lot of work, while the sabre stays STOCK.

Goon, heard enough about the busa that I am not sure I would want to ride one! Sometimes wonder if it should be renamed the deathmachine!  I doubt the full capabilites of that bike are even remotely reached on the street! Definitely a bike to be respected.

No prob about the oil cooler.

Will someone figure the actual displacement for me in case anyone is in doubt? I have a NOS set of BIG pistons for my build (when it finally gets done). They are 73.75mm. 

Jerry, 73.75mm on stock stroke comes out at 1076.64cc......guess you could call it a 1080 ::) ::) ::) ::)

I really wonder out the backgrounds of some that comment on here, perhaps they have some background related to bikes specifically that they are not telling us??... or maybe just blowing smoke...

754, are you sure you want to make insinuations like that? After all, you don't know it all either. Sorry if I am not as old as you or have not had my bike as long or I do not do a million miles a day.That does not necessarily make you the expert or better than those of us younger than you.

I have done a lot of work on my bike. I know it pretty well. I have also been on this site for almost 5 years. I caught the very end of the greenspun days. I have learned a lot from the people I would call experts. I certainly know enough to make the call that there are bikes out there faster and better than the cb750. It is just a fact. I ride my cb cause I like what it is but I also know what its limits are. I also happen to like the v65 magna/sabre. I like the v4 motor.
I know that the only way a cb will keep up is to be bored and ported and cammed and lots of other work. And it will only keep up with an expert on the clutch and only going straight. There is nothing wrong with that. A cb is just older and not as advanced.

Both bikes are unique and both have their own performance profiles.
What is it you really cant see here?

I can see very cleaerly, you posted that even a 1080cc cb750 could not beat a Sabre, then I showed you how some have. You then changed it to modded Sabre. What are you not seeing about that??

 You made a statement then changed it  to suit your point of view..

 One thing that can be done to the CB 750, is you can double the horsepower, try that with the Sabre..

 I dont know what it really takes to be an expert either, but perhaps you would like to share your background so we can see where you are coming from..

 Myself I workeed a bit at a Honda dealer when I was about 15 0r 16, assembling bikes.

 I owned at least a handful of 750, and more, rode for a few years with a few other CB750,s.. and not really low mileage stuff either..One I have owned for 32 years this month

 Built a few bikes, helped out with many, many more. have built parts for motorcycles as as early as the teens.

 Ended up with a bike parts store for a few years. Sold parts for a few makes.  Started drag racing,both myself and working on helping others, sometimes sponsoring them..

 Ended up getting some training as a machinist, then started another shop , bulding parts for racers of bikes boats, trucks etc. Built some stuff for the heavy truck industry, ended up  doing contract work for the truck plant, working  on drilling fixtures and workholding devices.

 At one time built a lot of custom one off parts for bikes & had a major contract supplying parts for a custom frame manufacturer. Even travelled in Europe & checked out some of the dealers for the frame guys..

So, in the last 2 weeks, I have done stuff like angle milling a blower manifold for a cigarette boat, custom adaptor to put a kicker on a 6speed trans, working on a prototype brake reservoir for Sohc Hondas , bored a set of big twin heads for bigbore barrels.Picked up a job setting up a wheel for a Kawi dragbike, bore hub for bearings, and bolt patterns, also a set of  spacers, (2 sets) for nitrous adaptors for bike carbs..


but heyy.. what would I know about the subject.. ::)

You showed ONE person could do it, NOT that anyone could or that even your average rider could do it. Both instances you listed were professional draggers on a prepared strip. Quite a bit different from street. So I admit that a person could do it in a straight line on a prepared strip but never on the street.

I only brought up that if you wanted to compare bikes with equal work done to them, the sabre would stomp the cb.

As for your experience, it may count but then there have been people building engines for years that were actually doing it wrong.

No you cant double the sabre hp, not that I know of. Could it be done? Probably.

I know you like to think you are always right but you have been wrong too as others have pointed out. I am not always right but I can tell you this, if I had a sabre and you had your cb, I would beat you, or do you think every cb that gets an 836 will run 10s?

What difference does it make though. I will never see a 10 second cb as there are none within 500 miles of me and no one will bother to race a sabre against a cb anymore. So I guess that other than throwing numbers back and forth from old records, neither of us has any real first hand documented proof. Just what others have written years ago.

Well, if nothing else, he sure knows his stuff about mad max. i just rewatched the original mad max, and the classic 70s cafes and gear in that movie are amazing.  I absolutely love Bubba Zanettyis helmet, it looks so 70s!  Actually, it looks like a LEGO space helmet haha! I wish I had one....
