CB550F Pipe question
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:37:45 PM »
Hello,

I have just purchased a CB550K0 (mostly in parts).  For exhaust it comes with a set of pretty clean 550F 4-1 headers, but no muffler.  Can anyone suggest a source for a replacement muffler for these headers and/or knows what size the output pipe on the headers is (don't have the bike here to measure).  Any recommendations to sort this most appreciated.

Cheers.

After further searching, I see the issue with the K kickstart and brake lever and the F 4-1.  I'm thinking if I joined a small extension pipe to the header and extend it back to a generic can, I should be able to stay small under the brake pedal to allow clearance.  Sound like a plan?

(PS:  I apologize in advance for this and further noob questions.  My last CB was a 72 500  15 years ago!  I'm not so much up to speed, but I'm searching and reading here, fantastic info!).

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, I see more headers in good condition then mufflers on these old bikes.  Post in the "wanted" section and someone may have one for you.

Good luck!

Thanks Cleveland.

I actually have some good news, going through the parts I see I have the brake lever, kickstart and footpeg for the 550F, so that plus the headers and I'm down to needing the slip on muffler.  I see MAC makes the slip muffler for the 550F, is this the easiest option?  Right now I'm thinking path of least resistance, is the MAC slip on muffler for the stock header the right way to go?  Are there any other options I'm missing other than custom fabrication?

Cheers,
Pineline.

I believe the slip ons would be the easiest solution.  Mac is a good brand and I have yet to hear anything negative about them.

Ordered!

If anyone has a pic of this kit on their bike, I'd love to see it (while I wait for mine to show!).
