350F - help me get my rings in right
« on: April 27, 2008, 01:01:43 PM »
Putting my rings in today.  My oil ring has red and green colored ends.  Is there any significance to that?  I'm not supposed to do anything crazy like overlap them am I?  I also have a ring with a chrome looking outer edage and one without.  It's more black and has more of a gap than the other one.  Which one goes on top?

You don't have to over lap the ends or anything crazy on the oil ring, the ring with the chrome edge on it is the top ring, the plain black one is the middle. If you look at the outside edges with a magnifying glass, you'll see that the top ring is beveled at the top and bottom and that the middle ring has a very slight slant to its outer edge.

Just make very sure you have the small ring markings are facing up when you put them on. They should be a 1 or 2mm from the end of the ring on the right hand side. Also, the gaps in the rings have to be 120 degrees apart from each other (but not lined up with the pin) when you fit them in the cylinders.
