Just pondering somethign
« on: April 26, 2008, 06:16:51 pm »
my dad has a '79 doch 750k/f/whatever (took 4 bikes to build it) and i have my trusty '75 750k.  i would love the throttle pull of his bike on mine, is there any chance of getting a set of dohc 750 carbs to work right on a sohc 750?  due to a car accident, my right hand is not as strong as it was when i got the bike and even riding it to work just about wears me out :(

Might I suggest you modify the spring between the carbs?

If you have both cables...installing a lighter spring on the carbs might be your answer.

+1

That would definitely be a lot easier than getting carbs from a different bike to work properly.

yes, i have two throttle cables.  i will look into a lighter throttle spring.  on the other side, the newer carbs would be nice since they have an enricher circuit instead of a choke and seem to allow the bike to start and idle better when cold (that could be 7 years of engine development though).

i did.  however i didn't have a starter button when i bought it so i have a set of k5 controls now (that was a log of work only to find out they had a bad headlight switch).

Well ok....

That little screw was to set the idle RPM to warm the bike up.....

Later carbs have an interconnect on the choke arm that bumps the RPM up with the choke on...

Basically you start the bike with the choke on and then set the warm up RPM.

Let it run a minute then turn the choke off and loosen the screw...

Make sure your throttle cables are routed correctly. VERY easy to route them incorrectly and create a binding. A throttle rocker would probably help out too.

throttle rocker?????

as for them being routed incorrectly i don't think they are but the PO put a crappy set of bars that required extended cables on it so i might have them routed wrong.

From looking at the wiring diagram for my 75 750F in the Service Manual and assuming the routing is the same for your bike, both cables go below the left front rubber tank mount by the steering head. From there the throttle return cable routes over/above the coils and through the A shaped frame brace down to it's attachment point. The pull cable goes from under the front tank mount to below/beside the left coil through the A shaped frame brace to it's mounting point on the carbs.

A throttle rocker is a simple plastic device that fits around the grip. Part of it sticks out for you to rest the heel of your hand on in order to exert downward pressure while your hand rests on the throttle.
