loss of power(electricity)
« on: August 16, 2005, 12:56:53 PM »
1970 Cb750K, Chopper, was running then it started to , as I was riding to loose power, sounded like running out of gas (tank was full), Would wait about 5 to 10 Minutes then the bike would fire right up again, I could ride for a couple of miles then it would do it again, the engine would fade to nothing. I dont know much about cb750, but it doesn't seem to be the carbs (checked bowls, and fuel flow). Will GLADLY EXPLORE ANY SUGGESTIONS... Well almost any.. ;)

scorpion, did you check fuel flow when the bike was hot.you may have a stopped up vent in your gas cap and it is causing a vacuum in the tank.next time it dies open the cap and wait a minute or so and then try to start the bike and see what happens.as far as electrical goes i cant help you there too much.

I would also think it would be a vent. I dont think electrics would do this.

Never herd of it happening on a bike, but I had a mower that did that when hot.  I had to replace the coil, it would short out when hot.  But like the previous post, sounds like a vacum problem in the fuel flow.

if you have an inline fule filter, check to see if it is clogged. also, if it is not a vacum problem, start at the pet cock and trace the fuel flow. see if it is just dripping out of the pet cock or if it flows, then check the lines and carbs, see if gas is getting to them. if the gas is flowing ok,  spray carb cleaner into the carb wher the fuel enters, and see if the re is a clog. then check float height.

Thanks for the feed back, sorry it takes me a while to respond, as I drive over the road, but anyaway. The filter is new, and the carbs are ok, continuous fuel flow noted. Have decided to move on to next phase, rebuild (entire bike) so as I make the mods to the Scorpion(name of bike when finished) I will keep all posted, pics soon. :)
