cb750 Fuel Tap compatibility
« on: April 28, 2008, 01:19:48 PM »
Hey Gents,

Does anyone know with any certainty wether or not the fuel taps between the cb750K & cb750F are or are not compatable??

I have a leaky cb750F fueltap, which is not rebuildable, and having a hard time finding another one. So Id like to know if a K model fuel tap would work..

Thanks
N

They change throughout the years. What year bike are you trying to fit?
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

1969-1974 cb750K fuel tap attaches with two screws. I don't know if the 500s or 550s ever used this petcock but they do not interchange with any other year cb750.

1975 and 76 both K and F use a threaded bung. I am not 100% sure but I am pretty sure that the petcock threads are the same for the 750F and the 750K even though the petcocks look physically different. Honda parts direct shows the petcock for a K5 and an F0 as having the same part number.

1977-78 Fs use a different thread pitch for the tank bung than the 75-76 F's and require a different petcock. I have no idea if the Ks are the same or not.

that is the best I can do.

Hey I've got a similar issue. I've got a '75 750 k5 with the "bung" style petcock on it.
Picked up a great tank cheap... but it's for a '74 or earlier as it requires the two screw petcock described above.

Man these valves are expensive!

I was hoping to be able to finish up my new older tank and just switch 'em out.
I'm now considering modifying the tank to fit my '75 petcock ... has anyone ever done this? Or used one of those very inexpensive universal petcocks?

My other option I'm considering is to buy the proper one to fit... and then sell my '75 petcock to make up for the purchase. (my budgets tighter than a [insert something funny here]  :o )

....... trade? ... what style do you have?

in the realm of motorcycle parts - $65 dollars is not that expensive. Personally I would not skimp in this area if it were me but hey - I've had fuel from a leaky petcock drip down my leg while riding and I don't really want to feel that again. It is kinda hard to sell a used petcock because the rebuild kits cost $25 bucks and really they ought to be rebuilt before being reused.

for what it would cost for you to braze in a bung in your tank and re-line it you could buy two petcocks. I have used universal ones in the past - one leaked, and the current one I have now does not have a researve. I have not seen a universal 2 screw petcock, all of them were bung types.

here is a 74 and below petcock for $47 bucks plus $7 shipping:

I've recently bought petcocks for my K3 and 76F from the Honda dealer and while I can't recall off hand exactly what I paid I remember both were cheaper than some I saw selling on eBay at the time. Both were just for spares and sit in my parts inventory.

I restored an old Yamaha and managed to get a brand new exhaust from the dealer, the last one available in the world so I was told, for $112 , obviously an old price and at the time they were selling on eBay for several times that. I nearly always make sure and check at the dealers.

I didn't think to check the dealers because the last two petcocks I bought were over $50, but you are correct - honda parts direct lists them as $38 and change + shipping:

02 PETCOCK ASSY.
16950-300-020  001 $38.18

sorry about that

My local dealer would still charge mt $60 for it though.

FYI the 75 petcock is about $54 + shipping from HPD
