Looking for intake boots for a 78 CB550K
« on: April 24, 2008, 01:14:13 PM »
Recently purchased a CB550 in museum quality with the exception of cracked intake boots for the air chamber.  If you have a set or know a source please let me know.  A few companies have them listed on their websites but when I inquired the part had been discontinued.  I do not know if boots from earlier years will work.

The boots for the 78 CB550 are unique to the 77 and 78 K model bikes with the the PD style carbs.  Earlier types are NOT the same.  I don't know know where to get new ones.

The boots only come complete with the airbox from Honda, all you can do is get the part number and hit all the old dealers hopinig someone has old stock as its been obsoleted for several years now

Save yourself some headaches. Check these guys. I looked for months on ebay, had to get three sets to get them all in good shape, one set I paid dearly for.

I found out later that these guys had them for about $60 (boots only, INCLUDING S/H from overseas). I think they are exact reproductions.

BTW, it is supposed to help if you warm them up a good bit before installation, it will make them more flexible.

Later, Phil

I thought the Dave Silver ones were for all the models 500/550 EXCEPT the 77/78 550

The 77F model uses the earlier style carbs and fit on the bike like earlier models do.  The 77-78 K models (K3) use PD carbs. These have external mechanical size differences that require different rubber mating boots.

I just took mine off my bike again.  If you are needing just one let me know.  All of mine are in great shape except for one of the outside ones and I am not planning on putting them back on.
