Wheel Swap Question
« on: August 19, 2005, 06:52:02 PM »
First off, I picked up a 73 CB750k - that had sat since 1982- 2 years ago, and thanks to this forum and a lot of work, I just got it running, and driving this week.  I really appreciate everyone here sharing their knowledge, without which I would be lost.  You all rule.

As I said, I have a 750k3.  I recently picked up a 79 cb650 (on the side of the road with a sign that said "free") with no carbs, a siezed motor, and many parts missing.   I made the effort to haul this bike home because of the near flawless honda comstar rims on which it was sitting.  The size of the frint rim is the same as my 73, but the rear is a 17 inch, as opposed to my 18 inch.  According to my parts guide, the rear sprocket is also different.  The speedo is also on the other side from mine on the front, and I'm not sure if the disk brakes are the same size on the front.

My question:  What do I have to do to make these beautiful rims work on my 750, if it's even possible ?

I put a CB650 17" wire wheel on my CB550.  (See gallery photo.)  Fatter tire got the diameter about the same and cleared everything.  Chain lined up.  Easiest way to find out for your application is to just bolt it in and see if it works.
I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.
