Topic: Will a 500 seat fit a 550?

Hi Guys i am new to this forum and new to building bikes. i have a 1975 cb550 and a looking for a good seat. i have a line on a great seat from a cb500. but before i commit, i need to know it fits. any ideas?

i;m pretty sure you need a 550 tank with a 550 seat,and vice versa

the bike in my avitar is a 71 500 frame with a 77 550 tank and seat......a 500 seat is to short and or the hinges didnt align (cant remember which)

72 500 through 76 550 will all fit each other.
Early 500 and 77/78 550 wont fit anything except what they came off

stop! they're both right.

neil is right- if your tank was a 77 like his the seat wouldnt line up

bryan is right- because you have a 75 the 500 stuff matches up

it's late. i'm drunk. someone correct me if i'm wrong (like i need to ask)

BryanJ is right as far as K models are concerned.  The F models from 75-77 had the larger tank like the 77-78 Ks so their seats are shorter to accommodate.

Of course, the beginning post neglected to mention whether his is K or F.

if your going to take advice.take it from the 2 gentleman that posted here (twotired and Bryanj)they certainly know a #$%*load about the 550's and 500's.they probably have forgotten more than i hope to learn.
no offence Klark ....you can take klarks as well....buy it!
