Topic: my CB750F build into a CR750 cafe

ive been building and posting for awhile now and i figure its time to post some pics and get some feed back.

im rebuiling the front end right now and hope to get the frame powdercoated this week.
i have almost every part that i need to put the bike together.

the frame is having the removable frame kit installed.  motor is being gone though too.  my other bikes, school, and work slowed the CR down alot but ive colected almost everything i need to start building. i hope with some time off for xmas i can get her to a rolling bike.

as all builds this one is taking way more time and money then i thought.
school work and life have gotten in the way but im back on the project with the hope that its on the road this summer

frame has been powder coated in a dark red/marroon.

all clips and such were cleaned and shaved off frame
every nut and bolt has been cleaned or replace
seals and rubber parts were replaced with OEM parts

still need to figure out wiring and lights

havent even started on building a motor to go with the build, just have a solid stocker for now.

at this point in the build everything is new or painted so i dont want to leave the wheels they way that they are.  they are very clean but not new like the rest of the bike.
i dont really know what im going to do with them yet

ordered the vapor dash
is there a spacer to delete the speedo pick up on the axle? 
the vapor uses a magnetic pick up so the speedo assembley would just sit on the axle doing nothing.
any ideas?

they are OEM twin pistons that bolt on with the right OEM brackets

anyone have a good place to get pistons and seals?

i cant get the bearings out of the lesters so when the tires come in ill try and see if the local honda dealer can press them out and swap the tires
i need to order more OEM honda parts anyway
i dont know why but i cant get the bearings out.  tried using a drift and alittle heat but nothing

also ordered a indicator dash for the vapor

tires will be Dunlop GT501s

As for your rear brakes, the stock F1 rear caliper was an opposed twin piston job. I always found that funny on my F1 that I way more stopping power on the rear that I did up front. Not sure if one would fit with the lesters or not, though...

the lesters are off a 78f so that used the single single piston rear.
i have that brake set up, the set up from the 76f that has the oppisite twin piston and then the rear off a GL1100 that has the twin pistons that are next to each other.  make any sence?  no?  yeah im lost after reading that too...lol
ill try and post pics of the rears that im talking about

got the forks together.
mounted up the new Dunlop GT501s.
had the local guy install the bearings.......WOW
he charged 3 hours labor to install the bearings and swap the tires.  i thought that was a bit much.

also the dash for the trail tech came in.

also looking into making the rear twin piston caliper work but im still not sure
now going to work on getting the rear wheel mounted, rearset on and rear master rebuilt

found out that i cant use the rear twin piston set up as the bar support is on the wrong side so ill just run the single piston off a 78F

next is the rebuild the calipers and master.
then mount and finish the install of the rearsets

i had it down on its own wheels to sit on her and feel it.  im pumped







anyone have the TTR400 rear chain adjs?
mine fit funny and i wanted to know if its something that im doing wrong

The problem with the chain adjusters is that you have a F model swingarm. Its has a thinner axle dropout.  I checked the website out of curiosity and it only says the K models.  If you dont mind the warping it seems they are still getting the job done or add a washer.

Great looking build and bike...do you have a link of more info about the "tail tech dash"? I googled with no luck. Looks like a nice little unit.

i didnt realize that the F and K swingarms were that different.
i mocked it up with a washer and it seemed to be much happier.
dont think that there is any reason not to use a washer, right?  there isnt much force on them, right?

so the rear mount for the twin piston caliper was off a GL sooo its upside down to use on my bike....Duh
i found a bracket off a dohc 4 so that should work.  ill have to wait and see.
painted up the calipers copper/bronze and i dont like the way that they look.....Duh again.

i think that i will just have the brackets and calipers power coated to match the other black parts on the bike.

had to lower the front fender alittle to clear the fork brace.  i thought that it was ment to just bolt on but it wouldnt so no big deal. 

next is to mount the tank and do some wiring.
going to order the brake rebuild parts and some other oem stuff i need this week


also going to run the TTR400 headlight ears too.  they really do have such nice stuff

those guys are sooo great.  its beautiful

OEM pistons and seals are in the mail to finish the brakes
also going to order SS lines

i messed around with a fender that i had and didnt like it.  then started playing with the stocker to see it that would work......then i called GFTP and ordered a dunstallish front fender...lol

ordered a CBR600 front master to work with the 32mm calipers
started to fab up a mount for the dash.  going to finish that this weekend

had a few questions about the twin piston front calipers.
its a bolt on set up with the right brackets.  i call it OEM+
most of the time it is refered to as using 1982 cb900F brakes and brackets.  if you cross the honda part numbers it comes up with a very long list of bikes that used the brakes and brackets
i myself and using the magna(and other honda) calipers.  they are 32mm rather then the cb900f, they are 30mm
i am also trying to run the rear twin piston set up.  this has been alittle harder but i think that i have it sorted.
the 82 cb900F rear bracket seems to line up with everything so far.  i have not heard of anyone upgrading the rear brakes as they are already more then enough but i wanted to for looks and ease of parts ordering latter.  but thats why im not sure that the rears will work
as for the fronts there are a few guys that have done it and really love the extra stopping power
