The X Wedge motor, might cause a stir!!
« on: May 04, 2008, 03:07:49 PM »
S&S Cycle has come out with a new Motor design, its about 56.5 degree V Twin.. available in 110 - 139 ci versions. Make an easy 135 hp..and EPA legal.!

And to make it even better, Made in America!

And S&S has a pretty solid background, probably will do well with this..gret folks to deal with... 8)

I guess they finally had to admit the 45 degree angle is too narrow to allow any large bore and stay even close to reliable.

I really got to hand it to s&s. I'm surprised they're able to make an air cooled motor that still is epa legal, especially one as cool as that. My dad's harley mags also say it's gonna be really mechanic friendly with that belt drive in their. Deffinitely a real piece of work.

It really looks like the engine Harley should have built ( about 20 yrs ago)
If I had a spare $37,000, I would be more interested in the V-8 Hayabusa on the kneeslider page though

I think the angle  is in part to not be the same as Harley, but also allow more deck surface..

You got to admit though a century on the basic design is pretty long life..

S&S really knows their stuff, they were a great company when I dealt with them (I was an S&S dealer).. they have remained pretty true to their roots and are still in Viola, a small town in Wisconsin..

Yawn... snoore... pushrod V-Twin... yada, yada, yada...

I'm sorry I find it hard to get excited about this, but... I mean... It's like PJ said, this is the engine that Harley (Or S&S) should have built 20 years ago (or more).

The V-Rod engine I like because it shows their ability to look beyond 1980.

And this engine may be emissions legal, but I bet it won't run for crap with anything less than a straight pipe.

Maybe they'll get really smart one day and make it a 180 degree twin and turn the engine sideways.

Just sayin....  ;)

VROD motor.
Designed in no small part by Porsche
Still makes only 100hp per litre. (125hp, 1250cc) 85lb feet of torque.
Rotax 1000cc v twin, 138hp per litre. 67 lbft.
That's an old rotax too.

Why am I not impressed by the V Rod?

As far as 138 hp from an aircooled engine, that 138 CI engine is over 2.2 litres. thats 62 hp per litre.
The old bandit made 84hp per litre, and with minor mods makes well over 100hp per litre. It's air cooled. (well, with an oil cooler too, though.)
No.

Honda CB550K - 544cc / 50HP = 92 HP / litre.  Not sure if you're measuring rear wheel HP?
