Tired and s#agged out after a long squawk.....
« on: May 04, 2008, 05:10:55 PM »
....if you'll excuse the Monty Python-ism. Here's Sophie having covered yet another near-500km weekend travelling to Kelowna where I do rider instruction. As always she performed flawlessly and got 62+mpg despite being thrashed; well relatively speaking, that is.

This was the first 'real' riding weekend of the year and there were bikes out in droves. I counted 89 on the way home, of which 75 were v-twin clones, and the rest were a mix of sportbikes, tourers and one other 'classic' that looked like a mid-'80s Suzuki or Kawasaki. All fun and games!!

That's gotta be a good feeling teaching new bikers how to ride. Do you ever get frustrated with total noobs?
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

Never. The 'greener' the novice the more satisfying the process, because I'm not having to deal with any prior 'experience' or pre-conceived ideas as to how to ride properly. It's amazing the number of urban myths that riders with 'eperience' being with them to training.

This weekend I worked with three guys who are already licenced, and wanted a 'refresher' course, and one young feller who is just about to take his final road test. It was an eclectic group, with two on 650 V-Stroms (one decked out to the nuts with Touratech accessories), one on a DR400 and one on a brand new HD Super Glide.

there is probably a lot we all could learn from a refresher course
