New member...1971 CB750 brought back to life!!!
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:26:00 PM »
I received a 1971 CB750 about 4 months ago for FREE from my friends uncle. It's in pretty bad shape cosmetically. It had no carburetors, no airbox, points and condensers were original, The spark plugs were older than i am, the front caliper is seized, the cables are all seized, there is a moderate amount of surface rust here and there (nothing rusted through), front forks aren't original, inside of tank is rusty, paint is faded and chipped on tank and there is a shallow softball sized dent in the side of the tank.

Two nights ago, after rebuilding a set of carburetors during the winter from the local motorcycle salvage, buying an airbox on ebay, getting new spark plugs, new points and condensers, a new battery, new fuel lines, a jimmy rigged gas tank, and a little starter fluid, vroooommm!!!! away she went. I am now looking forward to restoring this bad boy to rideable condition. It only has 12,000 some odd miles on the odometer (I know that's all it has, got it from the second owner) and it sounded great, no knocks, vibration or nothin...

It's the candy red/gold stripe on the tank 1971 cb750 four...

Congrats and welcome!
Riding and restoring these bikes has been very enjoyable for me and I hope it is for you. How about some pics of your ride?
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

Welcome! That's quite a deal for you, even if it is in rough shape. Good on ya for getting her running quickly.

Just unhooked the front caliper and put a clutch cable on it, and new throttle cables and took it for a spin around the yard. Now that I know everything works as it should it's time to tear down...

I plan on taking it down to the frame and repainting everything. There isn't any original paint left on this thing worth saving so we're (me and my friend who's uncle gave us the bike) going to strip all the original paint, and I liked the idea that someone else used on here of rhino lining (truck bedliner type stuff) the tank and using flat black on everything else. We're going to keep all the chrome and polish it up. Take the two good HM300 pipes on it and sell those to put towards buying a set of x-pipes...or possibly trying to find the #1 and #4 pipes in decent shape for fairly inexpensive even if we have to use HM340's...

I'll let everyone know what's goin on here and there in the project/resto forum...

I'll try to get some pictures up soon...
