Need info: Laced wheels on modern sportbike suspension
« on: May 04, 2008, 08:34:37 PM »
This pertains to my Z1, but I figured you gurus could possibly help me out. 8)
I want to utilize laced spoke wheels on my Z1 which has a 1992 ZX11C front end. I'm going back to the original swingarm for the rear so that is not an issue.
Kawi hubs are 40-hole types just like most Honda streetbikes so perhaps you guys can shed some light on what I need to do.
Below is a pic of an old-school KZ with modern USD forks. I LOVE the look of the laced wheels on this bike. The ZX11 forks are standard type units. Of course I'd want to keep the ZX11 brake system too.
Any suggestions on how I would go about doing this?
many Thanks,
Jim

I can't remember who, but someone fabbed up a hub to work with both spokes and a modern suspension.

Depending on the axle size you may get away with new bearings?
As all new sportbikes use much wider wheels, if your using top and bottom yokes to fit forks ( which would be sensible) it would be relatively simple to make bearing holder plates to widen wheel and use stock hub, bolting it together with through bolts which also hold rotors (or bolted to old rotor holes and fit new rotors to bearing plates)
