eBay's arrogance stems from what they believe is that they are still the only game in town. There are competitors growing in leaps and bounds. The only monopolies are those laid out by governments. When the other Craigslists and such begin to really eat into their bottom line, they'll have to repeal the policy.

What businesses sometimes forget is that if they try something like this and piss off too many customers, they may never recover.
