Harley Riders on the Right Track ;-)
« on: August 19, 2005, 12:14:40 AM »
I just finished a 3000 mile two week ride alone on my 78 Restored/Cafe 750 from the West Coast of Canada down the WA, OR, and CA Coast, and then back up the middle of all three Sates and I must say 99.9% of the "Harley" riders waved and smiled as we passed. When ever we met up at stops they were always friendly  and helpful with great ideas of roads they had traveled on, and oh yeah,  impressed to see an old classic like mine in such good shape. Maybe it's a Canadian thing,  but I say Hi to every one.

PLEASE READ ON.
My sister is the head of the USA West Coast "Muscular Dystrophy Association" .......Jerry's Lewis' Kids. While in San Fransisco she invited me to attend a VIP ride to the MDA camp for kids near Santa Cruz.  100 or so "Harley riders" PAID to go on this short run down to the kids camp.

We put on a parade for the entire camp on arrival and you would cry if you could have seen these wheel chair bound faces as all these "Harleys" rode through camp reving their engines. When we had all parked, it had been arranged for every one to register and we were all paired up with a single child suffering this debilitating disease and given "fake money" to give out to the child as they guided us to particular areas of the camp and gave us information about their summer.  They could then use the money to by candy at the camp store. These "Harley" Riders ALL spent HOURS that day totally engaged in their childs hopes and dreams and summer life.

Two of these "Harley" riders spent the entire day giving each and every child a ride around a field in their side cars. It was over 110 degrees!  4 HOURS! The smiles were huge and every child that could be moved from their wheel chair in to the side car got at LEAST ONE ride!

My sister says she can always rely on the "Harley Clubs"  from all around CA to support the kids and they always open their harts and wallets unlike any other group of folks she works with.

While I may never own a "Harley" (I like what I ride) ......Every one has the right to ride and smile.

P.S. I broke a throtle cable on the Oregon Coast on day two and ALL the Harley riders stopped to offer help.
Hit the HWY boys and girls.....its a big world out there!

I can assure you that  the travelers I met,  don't wast to much time slamming Hondas.

Nice post.
It's the normal thing, there's decent people & there's wankers in every group or type of people.
I started the Hardley post as a bit of fun but, yes I do know some good ones.

my 350 will no longer idle... simply need to resync the carbs but am a student and time is precious.  anyway, middle of the highway someone decided to put a stoplight.... stopped at red... bike dies.  WILL NOT START.  crank.  crank. crank.  full choke full throttle.  crank. crank. crank. then back to crank crank crank... this usually works to start the little bugger after she's warm... not this time.

to my surprise!... the neighborhood harley gang stops on one of the busiest highways around simply to ask if they can help (is this a common occurance? they ask.  yes, i say.)  they went on once i told them i was not worried.  but, THEY STOPPED.

hey terry... the reason i dont ride a harley?  well, I now have 2 sohc's (only one runs... not for long though)  and a zx7r...  all of which the sum total (3,000 usd) was well below what i would have to pay for a nearly dead harley.  besides that, have you ever ridden a harley?  a 45 degree vtwin sure vibrates a lot!  my dad had an 883 in the 80's... worst motorcycle he's ever had... and he's had WAY too many to count.
