'78 cb550k cafe "team shralp"
« on: May 05, 2008, 09:27:50 PM »
bought this a few months ago and have been messing with it for a while. Here are some before and after pics...

and now for the after shots. I'm not finished. Here is what I've done so far. Swapped bars for clubmans, Hammered in some knee dents, grinded off some brackets, mounted a fiberglass airtech rear cowl, fabbed new tail light bracket, and recyceled the original tail light(upside down), fabbed a side mount plate holder, removed turn signals, and some cleaning and such.

I'll post back here when I have some more updates. My main thing now is to get the carbs tuned, the bike runs very poor.

Bike looks great - I have it's exact twin.  I'd be interested in your original seat if you plan on selling it.

it's just a group of friends. We ride bmx bikes and mostly ride empty swimming pools. a few of us are also into motorcycles. mostly older bikes. Shralp means to just have a good time, make some noise, have fun, and look good doing it.

thanks I'm real happy how the tail worked. I went and dug around a salvage yard for a hour and bought some rounded tail lights, and a different fender that i thought would work. That was a waste of $50 cause i got home and ended up fabbing some metal and flipping the tail light over. Funny how that works.

Cool to see some bmx kids on these bikes! I'm from up in Tacoma and ride a bit. I run the bike and destroy site if you've ran across it ever. Bike looks nice. Hoping to pick up a 550F this weekend, have a 400F right now. Gonna keep an eye on your bike, anxious to see what you do with the seat..

It's cool to see bmx guys around these sites. I have been to your site a few times, i had it  bookmarked. http://www.destroybmx.com/

I post on the Team Shralp blog, shad and rich set it up for the shop and for fun. It's mostly just for news around portland and stuff. http://teamshralp.wordpress.com/

as far as the seat, i have been excited about actually being able to ride it. I now have some electrical bugs to work out. but the seat will get done eventually along with some other odds and ends, like new side covers, front fender, shocks, adjusting the forks. so far my list is long and getting longer.

do all of us BMX'ers end up on 1978 CB's?

Cool cafe, really nice work on all of it.

If you dig the older BMX stuff, check the link here http://www.drewfusnation.com/oldschoolbmx.htm for some old pictures of my collection, I need to up date most of them and add 4 or 5 bikes I do not have up there yet. If you are a member of either OS-BMX.com or VintageBMX.com, I am "PandaProAm420" over on that side of the 'net.

Update on the bike.

I got some bigger main jets from http://crc2onlinecatalog.com/Index_Main_Frame.htm and made sure my slow jets were clear. The bike runs so much better. Starts and idles better, and run throught the whole throttle better. Also will run at higher RPM's and has power the whole way through. I went form 98's to 102.5's I also bought 105's but ill wait to see what the bike runs like for a while then try the 105's and go from there.

I'm working on some side covers and thinking about some seat foam options, also took the front fender off.

photos are coming soon.
