Hi All,

Just signed up w/ the forum and wanted to introduce myself...

During a quick weekend trip down to Connecticut I ended up running into someone who wanted to get rid of an old Honda CB motorcycle. This is a true "garage find" with all the original parts intact and less than 5,500 miles. This will be my 2nd vintage bike restoration, the first one being a 1978 Honda CB 550. Although I've been in the market for another late 70's CB this free 1982 was just too hard to pass up!

Here is the priority list... we'll see how quickly we're able to make it through this:
1. Carb Rebuild
2. Gas Tank Electrolysis and Sealant
3. Replace Piston Rings, Head Gasket, Battery, Tires
4. Fix Front Brakes
5. Seat/Handlebars Customization

Welcome. Why replace rings,is engine stuck? Also the carbs on this bike are a pain but can be done, just have to be super clean.Do not try to use pod filters they will give you a real headache.I just reworked a 81 is why I am telling you this. Dannie

Was there anything specific you used to help get your carbs extra clean (besides the usual)?

Thanks for the heads up on the pod filters.

Do you have pictures of your '81 that I could see? Interested in hearing more about that experience.

I used Yamaha carb cleaner to finally get them clean enough. Keep each carb in its own container when you take them apart and let them soak overnight.I have some pictures but I am not to great on this computer so I do not know how to put up pictures sorry.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
