Fork tube length????
« on: May 07, 2008, 05:46:10 PM »
Does anyone have a fork tube out of a 75/76 750F that they can take the measurements of ?
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I bought a pair of new fork tubes from eBay (Cyclex) for my 76 auto and they were 23 and 13/16 inches long. When I installed them in a set of F lower fork legs the assembled fork was about 13/16 longer than those currently on my 76F.
So I guess they are about 23 inches long.

Thanks guys. Looking at the chart RR linked it looks like all the 750's use 23" forks but have different item numbers??!!

Next question - I wonder what the differences are if the diameters and lengths are the same?

After spending a bit of time (too much time?) researching that question (and failing to find anything) while trying to replace my 76F forks, I'd like to know what the differences are as well.

I do know that the parts fiche lists different numbers, but the fork replacement companies don't seem do do the same.

The early tubes 750K 69-72 are very different as they have a piston that slides over the lower part of the fork tube. The later fork tubes have some differences but they seem minor-mainly around the size of the bore where the damper rod fits
I have a number of forks tubes from 73-76 (??) and they vary in length by about an inch from the shortest to longest. They could also be 77/78, is there any difference in length of the later fork tubes?
The 750A76 lower forklegs are identical externally to the 750F76, but in the parts manuals show different part numbers.
It would be good to clarify all of this.
By the way Cyclex advertise the 23 and 13/16th length fork tubes as standard.
