High Test ?
« on: May 06, 2008, 02:27:36 PM »
I've always run 93 octane in the 750F.
Thinking of switching to a lower grade.
Any problem there.?

Only if the high test has left enough additive deposit behind to raise the CR.

Harsh words and regular gas are a good combo, too. Sophie thrives on the latter and kindly gives me 62 miles worth of riding for each (imperial) gallon she consumes.

I have no harsh words for an old gal who has proven faithful over nearly 20,000km in the last two years, all on regular gas.

Yeah, I keep trying to get my motorsickle to run on the blood of the innocent, but something keeps coagulating in the carbs.

I have been running the lower grade for about 5 years with no obvious effects. I am getting no detonaton unless I get lazy and try to lug it up from 30mph in 5th gear. That is I think what you were asking.

You can still buy 100 Octane fuel here in Oz, but I don't earn enough to qualify for the bank loan I need to fill my tank.................  :P

Why won't your bikes run on it mate? I run the 100 octane stuff in my CB750's occasionally, it has some ethanol in it (5% I think) and it runs ok, but I haven't found much difference in performance between 100 and 91 octane regular unleaded. Cheers, Terry. ;D

What does e85 do to our engines?
I can foresee it being a nice idea when gas gets as expensive in the US as it is everywhere else *right now*  ::)

lower energy content then gas so requires more fuel for fuel-air mixture. carbs need rejet.
poor cold start
can be corrosive to rubbers, seals, etc.

So we have come to a fork in the thread.  We could take the Seafoam route, or...

Nice.  It reminds me of how (was it Ashcroft?) said we're trying to cut the drug trade in opium because opium funds terrorism (and yet we still send billions there for gas/oil)  ;)   :D

Try as you might, if you purchase petroleum products, you have no control over where that oil came from or what corporation pumped it out of the ground.  Just because you buy gas at the Sunoco doesn't mean that it didn't come from a Shell oil rig.

Yeah, I think it's more likely that the government is stopping the opium trade because they don't get any revenue from opium.................  ;D

That would be about 93 here in the U.S.
