Stainless Brake Lines Arrived + Reccommendation
« on: August 01, 2005, 11:32:47 AM »
I am a firm believer in credit where credit is due, so here is my (unaffiliated) plug for H.E.L. Performance USA.  (www.helusa.com).  I heard that some people had problems getting custom shops to match the female fitting on the lower hose of the old CBs, and having a 1972 CB750K2, I was worried that I would run into the same.

So I sent Craig at HEL Performance my old brake lines and a short note explaining the unusuals (20 degree bend in the top; etc.).  The next day he calls me up, gets my billing info, and turns around a full two-line set within 24 hours, including stainless bolts + shipping, for $95.  The whole transaction took less than a business week and the fit/finish of the lines is fantastic: the right length, the right fittings, and a nice black finish to resemble the old rubber lines.  It's always nice when a business takes the time to do things right and appreciates your business.   Big ups!   :)

I just talked to these guys.  Real nice people.  Told me to box up my stuff and he'll get right on it.  I told him about your post. He seemed pleased about the response.  Thanks for sharing.  Thats what it's all about.

I got the same treatment from Craig, first class customer service!   Great company to do business with.
Plus you got to love the decal included with the new lines.

Wanted to post an update with pics of the HEL Performance stainless lines fitted to my bike.  The brake feel has been really solid, about as good as I expect it to feel without an upgrade of the master cylinder to a Goldwing or other modern cylinder.  You can see in the second photo how the bottom line mates with the steel line into the caliper -- all of the hardware is stainless (titanium was also available, but cost another $100).

I also repainted the caliper with some 'appliance epoxy' from Ace Hardware.  I call it the 'poor man's powdercoat'.  Dries hard and shiny, very temp resistant.
