Testing homebrew motorcycle camera mount: CB750
« on: May 08, 2008, 01:07:07 PM »
In preparation for the annual local Old Bike Ride, I decided to finally figure out a camera mounting set-up for my 750.  This is the first test, a short ride around my neighborhood, and it's also my first attempt at posting on Youtube, so be gentle. ;D

Watch for the squirrel that makes a last-second, life or death decision! :o

I have no idea what that annoying rattling sound is when decelerating.  I don't know if it's an anomaly of the camera or mount, or if it's from the bike, but I never noticed it when riding.  I may have to put something over the camera mic to muffle that and possibly reduce the wind noise, too.

Any guesses as to how/where the camera is mounted? :)

i think you mounted it in your threaded mirror holes that were good for nothing thanks to a sweet set of napoleons.

good video w/ not much shake!

Thanks!  I was very pleasantly surprised for a first attempt. :)

You're close on the mounting point, but it's not the mirror.  Pictures will be posted soon.

Here's a gimme hint:  It's "directly" in front of, but slightly lower and forward of your guess. ;D

Since you were using a similar camera for your previous videos, what focus setting did you have it on?  Mine is fine most of the time, but occasionally focuses in on closer objects, causing the rest of the picture to go blurry.

most point and shoot cams don't give much focus option for video...

Okay smartass! :P ;D ;D

There's an option for Center Autofocus or Multi Point Autofocus, I guess I'll just experiment.

Your guess is about as close as you can get, considering the turn signal is mounted on the headlight ear.

I lucked out in that I had a random bolt that not only perfectly fits the tripod mount hole on the camera but also fits the turn signal bolt hole.  I secured it with a nut on the bottom and top of the turn signal as well as one under the camera, and then cut a section of fuel line to cushion and stabilize the camera against the turn signal.  This set-up allows me to see the display while it's running and access the memory card and batteries while it's still mounted.

I have to say for a first time You Tube post you're about 99.99% better than most of the crap some people throw up there!  They're so bad I feel almost violated after watching them.  :-[

Clever mounting too. That farting noise has to be a result, I think, of the mounting.

Otherwise... well done.

Thanks!  You're right, that sound was coming from the piece of fuel tube vibrating against the turn signal.  I stuck a small felt pad (the kind you put on furniture legs to keep them from scratching a wood floor) underneath the tube and problem solved! :)

Slick setup Gordon.  Nice to see the trees starting to bud out too - that means it will also be spring here soon.
