Im about ready to get my 74 cb550 back on the road after a winter freshen up. But I dont have a carb sync, also it would be nice to know of a good shop, or somebody that could help me with this thing. There is a honda dealer but I went in there once asking if they could help me set my floats on my carbs and they said the carbs had to be on the bike for them to do it. I figured that part out but it doesnt really make me want to go there again.

they don't have to be on the bike, I have done it on the bench upside down many times, you should search around on here for how to sync them your self and ask many questions you will get help. The money you will save by not going to the mechanic will pay for a nice sync kit. I would come and help you but i am down here in kansas city. maybe a ride can be assembled in the midwest and we can all go for a cruise. ;D

Yeah, I ended up setting the float myself and think I did a good job. It just seems like the honda dealer was scared of working on my bike because it was older.

just got a Morgan Carbtune pro.....it was $100 - but the local dealer would likely charge close to that to
synch your carbs anyway. Might seem a bit intimidating, but it is remarkably easy and REALLY does make a
huge difference.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Does the bike run well enough to get to the Quad Cities?

Gauges are about $80 from JCWhitney. The cost to have a shop do it would probably be about the same and this way you could keep them if you ever needed to do it again.

I would rather have someone else do some of the work but when I can do it myself and keep the tools for less I can't complain.
